God bless the Red Krayola and those who sail with Mayo Thompson: #RedKrayola top twenty, n° 20
Say Hello to Jamie Jones (2011 Sonic Boom Remaster)

Red Crayola/Red Krayola from Texas, well beyond the boundaries of psychedelia, made their debut with the unattainable "Parable Of Arable Land" (1968); Mayo Thompson, always at the forefront, sidestepping jazz, rock, and classical music; in England, he resides for a long time collaborating with the conceptual art collective Art and Language; in and out of post-punk, collaborating with musicians like Gina Birch (Raincoats), Epic Soundtracks (Swell Maps), Lora Logic (X-Ray Spex/Essential Logic), David Thomas (Pere Ubu, of which he will also become part), and also active as a producer (The Fall, Raincoats, Scritti Politti, Cabaret Voltaire, Stiff Little Fingers, The Chills, and Primal Scream); in the 90s he collaborates with the post-rock crew (Jim O'Rourke and David Grubbs of Gastr del Sol, John McEntire of Tortoise, and former Minuteman/firehose, Unknown Instructors’ Gorge Hurley). Thompson is an underground giant. The parabola of asphalt shredded: deconstructor of rock, deus ex machina of the avant-garde. Sardonic, iconoclastic, abstractist. King, whether he likes it or not, of outsider music and art rock. Still little recognized in the evolution of rock music...

Bravado (Remastered)
Since there is still something good on Hold Your Fire (an example of how to brush against Canadian AOR from the late 80s without being cheesy or sappy), I consider Bravado the gem that closes the golden phase of Rush (and after all, the perfect piece of the badly aged funky pop from Roll the Bones).
