Thos e dear to the gods die young...
Salvatore Antonio "Rino" Gaetano (1950-1981) Singer-songwriter, guitarist, bassist. Author of six albums between 1974 and 1980, where he ranged from irony, mockery, bitterness, and sadness of the human condition, through seemingly light lyrics, behind which he hoped one could read notes of dissent or social critique, not shying away from nonsense either, practices for which he was often accused of being an anti-establishment figure and empty rhetoric for its own sake. He possessed a powerful and hoarse, bluesy voice.
Cause of death: Head-on traffic accident with a heavy vehicle. At four in the morning, after a night out at clubs, perhaps drunk, undoubtedly sleepy, he collapsed, veering into the opposite lane against traffic in Rome, where he encountered the aforementioned truck. He was initially buried in the Mentana cemetery, then transferred to Verano in Rome.
