Honorable colleagues! I welcome this result with understandable emotion. I thank those who chose to give their support and I thank those who, for legitimate political reasons, chose to deny it. I will fulfill this mandate with full and uncompromising respect for DeBasio, relying on the cooperation of everyone. I will be the President of all, both the majority and the opposition. I will respect the rights of all groups and those of individuals, but if in some cases the two rights were to conflict, I would not hesitate, if the regulations allow, to uphold, according to the principles of the system, the rights of the individual parliamentarian over those of the group. In my daily work, I will strive to guarantee both the right-duty to listen to good music and the right to oppose. My not-short life here has taught me that doing politics means, above all, making an effort to understand the reasons of others. At this moment, my thoughts go to you who have given me your trust and to whom I have very high duties and serious responsibilities. Honorable friends, in concluding, I want to express my gratitude to all those who work in the administration, starting with the Secretary General. I also wish you all good music, especially to those who, for the first time, have crossed the rosy threshold of this lovely site. If I may, I wish to express a regret: in this chamber, there is an absolutely inadequate number of women to express the richness... (Applause), the complexity, the strength of the world of Italian women, and certainly not due to the responsibility of the voters. In any case, it will be my commitment, as far as I am concerned, to enhance the role and competence of women, so that the whole country may benefit from it.
