The Doors - Been Down So Long (with lyrics) "Jim Morrison & the Doors on the road" (53) A Blues with Square Balls! The title is a typical phrase from the blues and from a novel by Richard Farina that had quite a bit of success within the counterculture. Jim loved the writing and recommended it to everyone. As far as I know, it’s one of the only, or among the very few, songs without keyboards. Great work by Krieger and Brenno on guitar and sublime vocals from Morrison. He hated what the Lizard King still represented in the mainstream, but the anger and passion with which he sings convey how much energy was in that rehearsal room. Farina was also a singer-songwriter (he released a couple of albums with his wife), and he died shortly after publishing the novel in 1966. His wife was Joan Baez’s sister. Many of his songs were covered by others, especially by Fairport Convention.
