I share what I found written on the web: "I don't like rap but here, in this wonderful movie, it fits perfectly. What I love about this song is the aggression and anger in the rapped verses contrasting with the angelic voice in the chorus. It becomes a great metaphor for the film, which is a blend of transcendent moments of grace accompanied by brutal hostility..."

His name was Marvin Lee Aday, but we all knew him as Meat Loaf, a singer with 13 studio albums and 6 live albums, a dozen DVDs and VHS tapes, and around thirty singles. He was also an actor in about twenty TV shows and at least 30 films, including "Fusi di testa" from '92, "Pazzi in Alabama" by Antonio Banderas from '99, "Fight Club" by David Fincher from '99, and the unforgettable "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" from '75. He left us two days ago at the age of 74 after going through so much, both good and bad, since childhood, and that’s it... r.i.p.

[...] unforgettable is the scene where Alex ironically hums Singin' in the Rain by Arthur Freed during the beating and rape scene at the writer's house. The scene is ironic because it creates a comparison with Kelly, who in the titular film (Singin' in the Rain, 1952) dances and sings joyfully in the rain, while Alex does nothing but beat the two unfortunate victims, ensuring that the rhythmic pauses of the song are punctuated (and highlighted) "in time" by the kicks and blows he delivers. Moreover, the power of music in this film is further emphasized by this very song: indeed, the writer will recognize Alex only after he starts to hum it.

My mom liked this about forty years ago, and she would tell me when I played the 45 RPM record. Every now and then, she would ask me to play it for her on the guitar. She passed away on April 4 of this year at 92 due to cancer, so when I heard it again on YouTube tonight, it immediately didn't remind me of the beautiful film, but rather "ea me vecia" and that’s it… (r.i.p.)
