THE REVIEW

Ill Nino is a rather interesting band, capable of carefully blending Nu Metal elements with tribal elements, through the use of percussion and experimentation that veer slightly away from the classic Nu Metal which a thousand bands are now filling us with. The singer's voice, quite interesting, fits perfectly with the aggressiveness of the distortion or the sweetness of the clean, which they wisely alternate in a series of interesting pieces, sometimes angry, sometimes sweet and carefree.

Let's see in detail: The album opens with a very aggressive piece, God Save Us, which makes us understand the Hispanic-American group's caliber; another rather violent piece is If You Still Hate Me, with a very simple but effective scheme, although it may seem vaguely banal, without tiring; Unreal, a rather interesting song, reminds us of the early pieces of Korn, rendered from Ill Nino's perspective, with a rather interesting chorus; with Nothing's Clear, they show us a certain variety, alternating calmer parts with impetuous demonstrations of aggressiveness; What Comes Around, a piece that at first may seem almost electronic, then transforms into a classic Nu Metal song in the style of Papa Roach, etc., with very little out of the ordinary except for the singer's hoarse shouts, which fit perfectly; Liar introduces us to the particular use of percussion but proves to be very similar to the previous song, despite some original spurs. Rumba is instead the confirmation of Hispanic music's influence on their violent Nu Metal, which suddenly calms down under the percussion's rhythm; Predisposed offers little new except for the use of some effects that show us the band's experimental setup, attempting to rise from the classic Nu Metal foundations; I Am Loco, where the singer shows his characteristic fusions of Spanish and English, also showcases his rap skills, alternating with harrowing screams that halt the incidence of the spoken parts; No Murder, a very interesting piece, once again demonstrates the aggressiveness/calm/aggressiveness scheme that Ill Nino adopts, introducing interesting "stop and go" and a very beautiful text; Rip Out Your Eyes, a rather fluctuating piece, loses interest with the repetitiveness of the chorus, which doesn't cut off the main axis of the song nonetheless; Revolution/Revoluçion, a stunning piece, highlights the band's whole quality by combining all the elements that distinguish them into a complete and very interesting song; With You is the album's surprise, the serenade that is never missing in albums of this type, a very simple piece in terms of composition, but with its incisiveness manages to interest every type of listener, resulting extremely catchy and engaging for some, too banal and predictable for others, but still a wonderful song.

The album is quite interesting, and it lets us understand how the frontiers of Nu Metal are not closed only to the usual well-known names, but allow glimpses of many alternative bands that sometimes manage to deepen it with quality and elegance. An album recommended to anyone who listens to this genre of music but also to those who want an album that is easy to listen to but of compelling effectiveness.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the rage of tracks such as "God Save Us," "If You Still Hate Me," and "Revolution Revolucion," where aggression dominates.

The final track, "With You," is a sweet ballad with a folk-Latin flavor that surprises and disorients.

A good level of production is not enough to validate a band’s offering.

Too much canonicity that - after several listens - causes mental states very close to 'nu-tribal-boredom.'

This is perhaps the most experimental album by the group, where the melodies are based on very simple yet captivating chords.

The genre is based on a Nu-Metal/Tribal style, where powerful distortions merge with Latin percussion, or bongos.
