THE REVIEW

I find myself with a work sadly subservient to the rules of the "nu-market," but as usual, with a hell of a production.
This is yet another demonstration (see Incubus) that a good level of production is not enough to validate a band's offering.

The recipe of Ill Niño is as follows: take the impactful riffs and the aggression of Machine Head, bring out the most tribal side of Soulfly/Sepultura and the Latin American flair of Puya, then add to all of this an abundant amount of vocal melodies/angry screams and, finally, use for the thousandth time that cauldron so dear to Slipknot, stirring with caution…
In short, too much canonicity that - after several listens - causes mental states very close to "nu-tribal-boredom". Just as if there were nothing else to say except to repeat everything that has already been said a few years ago by "Roots" onwards.

Nothing new, therefore, on the nu-metal front, apart from small signs of good coalescence of spontaneity/aggressiveness/Latin American folklore as in Nothing's clear, the scratches of Liar, and yet the electronics of I am loco. Everything else is a "deja-vu": it lacks that component of independence that - in my humble opinion - would have certainly made the product more interesting.
The purchase phase of "Revolution/Revolucion" absolutely necessitates a prior listening phase of the same.

Summary by Bot

The review critiques Ill Niño's Revolution/Revolución as a well-produced album stuck in the conventions of the nu-metal scene. While it integrates Latin American folklore and tribal rhythms effectively, it falls short on originality and risks 'nu-tribal-boredom.' Some tracks show promising blendings of aggression and melody, but overall the album recycles past ideas from iconic bands. A prior listen is advised before purchasing.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the rage of tracks such as "God Save Us," "If You Still Hate Me," and "Revolution Revolucion," where aggression dominates.

The final track, "With You," is a sweet ballad with a folk-Latin flavor that surprises and disorients.

This is perhaps the most experimental album by the group, where the melodies are based on very simple yet captivating chords.

The genre is based on a Nu-Metal/Tribal style, where powerful distortions merge with Latin percussion, or bongos.

Ill Nino is a rather interesting band, capable of carefully blending Nu Metal elements with tribal elements.

Revolution/Revolución, a stunning piece, highlights the band’s whole quality by combining all the elements that distinguish them into a complete and very interesting song.
