This is an album that undoubtedly brings something innovative, yet it also has unmistakable influences from "Sepultura" and its successors "Soulfly". The genre is based on a Nu-Metal/Tribal style, where powerful distortions merge with Latin percussion, or bongos. This is one of the characteristics that has allowed "Ill Niño" to showcase and expand their cultures.
This is perhaps the most experimental album by the group, where the melodies are based on very simple yet captivating chords. The singer uses different vocal techniques; for instance, in songs like "Liar", his voice is shrill but at the same time expressive and melodic. Finally, this album is characterized by occasionally electronic riffs and in many tracks, the group's origins are evident, and thus there is the Latin-American influence.
It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the rage of tracks such as "God Save Us," "If You Still Hate Me," and "Revolution Revolucion," where aggression dominates.
The final track, "With You," is a sweet ballad with a folk-Latin flavor that surprises and disorients.
A good level of production is not enough to validate a band’s offering.
Too much canonicity that - after several listens - causes mental states very close to 'nu-tribal-boredom.'
Ill Nino is a rather interesting band, capable of carefully blending Nu Metal elements with tribal elements.
Revolution/Revolución, a stunning piece, highlights the band’s whole quality by combining all the elements that distinguish them into a complete and very interesting song.
