THE REVIEW

I had the opportunity to listen to the production of Frostmoon Eclipse and I realized that I was facing one of the best extreme Italian acts. Born in La Spezia twenty years ago, around the figure of guitarist Claudio Arcara, these musicians have carved out a highly respectable role in both the Italian and international scenes.

If, during the 1990s, they released several Demos and EPs, it was in the third millennium that they began to enter the studio and release full-length albums, counting up to five to date, including this one, The End Stands Silent, released by the French Osmose Productions in 2011.

A great leap in both composition and creativity, the album excellently blends the most uncompromising Black tradition (see the Scream vocals by Lorenzo Sassi) with acoustic and melodic inserts. A true characteristic of FE's music.

Already the opening track “Heaven Outside Hell Within” reaches levels of quality that are nothing short of astonishing: 10 minutes of progressive and atmospheric Black that bring to mind the best of Opeth (ORCHID!) and Dissection. The menacing raids of “I Am The Absence” accompany the almost Doom-like slowdowns of “Corridors”. Still beautiful are the Folk incursions of “Unnatural Isolation” for example!

A wonderful album that draws heavily from the great tradition of European Extreme Metal, here revisited in a highly personal key by the artists from La Spezia. Composition at the highest levels and a production to die for! Brilliant, those who have not yet had a chance to listen to them, should do so, they will not be disappointed!
