An example of what Hard N' Heavy in the Eighties was, this “On Target” by the British band Fastway (founded by Pete Way and Fast Eddie Clarke in 1982). Produced by Enigma Records and released in 1988, the fifth album of the group departs from the sounds proposed in the first records (“Waiting For The Roar” and “Trick Or Treat”) which hinted at the old-school Hard N' Heavy style close to UFO.
In “On Target,” we find first and foremost a almost entirely new line-up with only the original member Eddie Clarke present and Lea Hart on vocals (replacing the departing Dave King). The others are Steve Clarke (drums) and Paul Gray (bass).
We are in the realms of melodic and pompous Metal very close to the sonic extravagance of fellow countrymen Magnum. The synth reigns supreme in every track and the guitars are almost put in the background by its assertiveness.
A joy for genre lovers, the album is pleasant to listen to but at times monotonous and repetitive.
The rocking “Dead Or Alive” and “Let Him Rock” enriched with catchy choruses accompany the majesty of tracks like “You”, “She Is Danger”, and “Two Hearts”. “These Dreams” and “Change Of Heart” prove to be the only commercial samplings and there's no shortage of classic and legendary ballads such as “A Fine Line”, “Show Some Emotion”, and “Close Your Eyes”. A piece of Metal epic.
