Good old Lou Barlow. At least two of their albums ["Sebadoh III" from '91 and "Bakesale" from '94] I would count among my all-time favorite records. Towards the end of their career, they declined, especially with the last self-titled album [I think it's from '99]. But those two albums I just mentioned are so amazing to me that a 5 seems almost too little...

"Fast Stories...From Kid Coma" not only stands out as one of the best albums to come out of '90s Seattle, but it's also among the most obscure. Just like Truly themselves. They had the peculiarity (regarding the so-called "Seattle Sound") of using keyboards and various effects, along with a strong psychedelic and almost progressive flavor. By the way, it featured Mark Pickerel (former Screaming Trees), Hiro Yamamoto (former Soundgarden), and the leader and guitarist Robert Roth.

"Person Pitch" was truly a great record, like taking the best of Brian Wilson (that was "Smile") and tearing it apart and reassembling it in a sea of loops, electronic beats, samples, and whatever else you can think of. Just like his parent group, Animal Collective, who have great albums [notably the ethno-folk-psych delirium of "Sung Tongs," an album of celestial beauty for me] but also abominable crap [the overhyped "Merriweather Post Pavilion," a half-baked mess in my opinion].

Mazzy Star, as much as I liked them ("So Tonight That I Might See" is beautiful), seem almost like "little things" compared to a fucking masterpiece like "Happy Nightmare Baby," ultra-acid/paisley garage rock/call it whatever you want, but it's a masterpiece like few. And the collection of "leftovers" that came out afterward, "Early Recordings," is a masterpiece in the same way, despite being outtakes! Much quieter, dreamier, just as "acidic" and floating... May Satan have them in glory.

European pride in the Heavy Psych realm [or Stoner, as the media would soon "label" this sound], alongside the Welsh Acrimony and the doomsters Electric Wizard. In the discography of these Dutch musicians, I count at least 2 masterpieces [the EP "Sea of Tranquillity" and the stunning "Liquid"] and two other fantastic albums, the heaviest being the second album "Into The Void..." and the last, ethereal effort "Phase V," before the breakup. Truly great.

Enormous. HC meets Rastafari. I'm naturally referring to the deadly duo "Bad Brains" and "Rock For Light," which is some of the best that hardcore produced in the early '80s.

One of the funniest bands of the '90s. Punk/Rock n' Roll/added horns and absurdity. And their "Circa: Now!" from '93 remains among my favorite albums of that decade. Then they kind of went to shit... but whatever.

Forgive my harshness, but... I have ALWAYS thought they suck.

But they can go fuck themselves... with all due respect to those who appreciate them, huh.
