I'm not a youngster. Since the mid-70s I've been listening to music with passion. Classical, folk, beat, rock, psychedelia, prog, punk and new wave—beyond that I didn't go because today's music is crap ... hip-hop, techno, rap ... all crap. People no longer know how to write decent music. All they do is dozens of covers, each worse than the last, and we've reached the point of covering the covers. A disgraceful trend. Give me thousands of Mussorgsky, Delibes, Schönberg, Bartok, Satie records and lots of prog and Mozart and also jazz—Buddy Rich and John McLaughlin and Mike Westbrook. I want people who have left their mark: Genesis, King Crimson, Van Der Graaf, Who and Beatles, Frank Zappa and Robert Fripp. The great De André, Robert Wyatt, the Canterbury Sound and Beethoven. The mark, I want to see the mark in the history of music.
