mariaelena, on Saturday night I saw Delta V live in the province of Padua (see review), and despite the awful acoustics, I liked them a lot! As I wrote, I don’t understand why on Debaser, where everyone seems to know everything about music (although when it comes to tastes, I'm the first to say that you can't really argue!), this band keeps getting bashed continuously and if you and I hadn’t written something, there would have been nothing at all about them!!!!! I really don’t get it! I haven't bought the album you mentioned yet, but after Saturday night I'm very tempted and I’ll soon grab it! The only thing that has held me back so far is the rock turn (a genre that doesn't really appeal to me), at the expense of electronics, dub, and reggae :=)

primiballi, I'm not exactly new to this either, and as much as I have a ton of Mina's records and really appreciate her, believing deeply that she can truly sing ANYTHING and turn any piece into GOLD, I have to say that some of the covers she did in the 80s are... superfluous! :=) The Delta V have their very own unique style, every time I read about them they are praised, I don't understand why they are so boycotted here on Debaser. Even my previous review of "Le cose cambiano" was heavily booed, and it seems to me that Mariaelena's review of "pioggiarossoacciaio" is following the same fate :=( ... well ... they seem to me one of the most unique realities in the current Italian scene.
Everything But The Girl Walking Wounded

Fantastic!!! I liked them before, but not this much!!! This shift towards club music (a bit elitist...) has convinced almost everyone and opened up two new frontiers for them and access to a new audience. There isn't a track that I don't like (except maybe "mirrorbal," which is more in line with their previous production than with this album). The song "walking wounded" has a mind-blowing beat, especially in the first few seconds; it needs to be listened to at high volume :=) Since then, they've only released "temperamental" (1999), which is also beautiful, another step forward towards dance (and a step back from drum'n'bass), plus a compilation and a remix album. It's crazy how simply extracting the tracks from their arrangement showcases the quality of their work (the various remixers have always had plenty to do...), the melodies are captivating and enveloping (:P), Tracey's voice is always deep and expressive... wow... what a duo!!! We’re looking forward to Thorne's first solo album next year; I'm very curious! TOO BEAUTIFUL!!!

Well done, primiballi, I like how you write! I also disagree on the prince/queen parallel, but even more on prince/chic!!! My musical culture starts from the '70s when disco reigned, and I still really love Chic and listen to them often... Plus, I adore Prince... but they follow different paths, I would say! The former definitely, elegantly, and consistently "disco", the latter polyhedral, poly-(multi-?)genre and poly-instrumentalist! Both have produced great things, but PRINCE is PRINCE! An undisputed genius, capable of extreme highs (and lows!). I’d like to find this record at a decent price, and you encourage me to search for the edition with the afterhour! :)
Marvin Gaye What's Going On

I completely agree, since '95 I didn't miss an issue of "musica," but after the first two issues of XL I lost interest... too glossy, full of ads, too pretentious... nothing like the recycling paper of a foster father :=) How else do you keep up with music releases? I confess that I bought certain albums, even by unknown or semi-unknown artists (like Jill Scott's first album), because they were "five stars" in the reviews section! Those were the first pages I would eagerly check out after tearing open the nylon of the packaging... :=)

Well done, Socrates, I’m a big fan of black music, I don’t know the whole album, but Marvin is one of my favorites. I've just joined Debaser and I must say (but take it as a compliment - ;P) that this review could easily fit in "Repubblica" or "Corriere della Sera" ... I hope you don’t take it as an offense!!! :=)
