I will re-emphasize that I am extremely skeptical about 90s metal, and even more so about that of the 2000s. HOWEVER, Tepes' point of view is understandable. He knows his stuff and can distinguish a well-made brutal record from a terrible one. It's not like Tool or Dream Theater are advocating any groundbreaking innovation. I can't stand either of them and I prefer extreme metal, or at least the one from the 80s.

I’ve heard opposing opinions… Generally, it’s rare for a band to produce exceptional work after their fourth or fifth album, so I tend to be wary. Of course, there are exceptions, but usually it’s like that.
