Tim Burton Big Fish - Le Storie Di Una Vita Incredibile

In my opinion, there are similarities in the search of the two protagonists for an escape into fantasy... both in Pan's Labyrinth and in Big Fish, imagination is seen not only as an escape from reality but also as a true necessity, and the endings of the two films are very similar. For the rest, they are two very different films in terms of plot, setting, and historical period, but their conception of fantasy and imagination is the same.

Tim Burton doesn't really appeal to me, but this is truly a splendid film, definitely his best... has anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth, which just came out... there's something about that film that reminded me of this... fantastic review.

David Cronenberg The Brood, La Covata Malefica

Punny, in my opinion, Existenz is Cronenberg's best, or at least definitely better than Crash, which leans a bit too much on the sliminess... Nobody really cares, but a year ago in Amsterdam I met someone who had a bioport tattooed on his back. This is the only one I haven't seen along with Rabid... I'll make up for it... Is it true that the actress in Rabid was a porn star?

Well, even though your comment is from a little while ago, I wanted to tell you, dear punny, that you were wrong to think that Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas doesn't appeal to me; on the contrary, that film is a delight. It's just that it's very different from this one, not in terms of irony but in terms of subject matter and approach (the type of surrealism is quite different) and it’s about drugs, how could I not love it? And anyway, the best sci-fi film is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then this one and Gattaca are on par... I'm not discussing the value of the film (anyone can come tell me that, for example, 2001... is better, etc.), but I'm talking about the sci-fi films that I truly enjoyed the most.

The soundtrack is by Billy Corgan (who also makes a cameo in the film... the doctor with that crazy wig) and it's probably the only decent thing he's done as a solo artist. The film isn't bad, but it mimics millions of films in the same genre and revels in its own eccentricity... better than Requiem for a Dream… but not bad, anyway.
