Anyway, you are the one with the anecdotes!! Every now and then you pull one out of the hat. I remember at least a couple in your reviews and occasionally someone in the comments, like the one left on the review of American Beauty.

Loi spritz is a tradition that is distinctly Venetian, particularly from Padua. If you go to Bologna and ask for a spritz, I believe they'll think you're quite confused.

Yes, but do you see that your negative judgment on Baricco comes from the Baricco as a character? I've never read an interview with Baricco, I've never seen him speak, I've only read two of his books, and they didn't seem too bad to me, at least not as bad as people want to believe. Regarding the episode you mention, I could say: "yeah, okay, he's a fucking pain in the ass, inconsistent and arrogant,ā€ but I don’t contextualize these events with my judgment of the author. In my opinion, it's not a 5, but not a 1 either, exactly like Tornatore.

"I don't know about you, but I definitely wouldn't buy a book from someone who makes jokes like that..." -----> Ahahaha, well, if you think that way, you should definitely buy some of my books, too bad I'm a disaster as soon as I pick up a pen. :-))

@ Fusillo: I’ve read two things by Baricco: "Novecento" and "questa storia". I didn’t dislike either of them. He’s a guy who knows how to write, and well. He’s not a genius, but one thing you can’t say about him is that he’s a blunderer. The antipathy towards him undoubtedly arises from the fact that he’s too overhyped; you see him everywhere, and from that air of sentimental banality that his stories take on after a while, due to the redundant evocative nature of past emotions and so on, sunsets with tears and so on until the end of the book. However, I don’t think he’s a fool. Of course, you can’t even compare him to the golden literary past of Italy; I would never trade him for a Pavese, a Calvino, or a Svevo.

Ok, I stay away from some of your ideas expressed, but in the end, it’s a matter of differing opinions :-).

"If you allow me, Lou Reed will NEVER be remembered for his lyrics in the history of Rock" ----> that's not true. One of Lou Reed's greatest merits is having brought that sort of annihilating and ironic realism to the music scene, realism that primarily derives from his lyrics. I don’t know how you are with English, but if you read lyrics like Heroin, Venus in Furs, Perfect Day, The Wild Side, Berlin, Caroline Says to name just a few, I believe you would take back that statement. That said, I agree with the judgment given to this album.

Well, I'm surprised by your judgment, which I find driven by a certain dislike for both Tornatore and Baricco. Not even a compliment for Roth's performance, and that perplexes me. It's not his best film, but he still delivers a high-level performance. I also find that on a technical level, the film is truly up to par, even if I've noticed the overly sentimental tone already mentioned by punisher. Anyway, at least a 3 is deserved for the film; for me, it's a 3.5, which would be a 7 out of 10. Tornatore may be overrated as a director, but there's a big difference between that and giving him a one. Baricco may also be overrated as a writer, but he has still shown literary abilities well beyond zero. As for the soundtrack, I believe it's also at an incredible level; I find it truly inspired and perfectly matches the film. It's always happened that disputes among musicians are resolved in favor of the one who is more flashy because the dispute itself is not a competition of artistic qualities; it wouldn't make sense for it to be so. Mozart was just as famous as a pianist because he acted flashy, which is documented. For these reasons, I give you a 2, even though the review is well written as usual.

@ Grass: it wasn't an exhortation, but an observation; otherwise, there would have been a comma after Grass... I pointed it out because it's the first time, perhaps, that I've seen you use vulgar terms towards someone, that's all. I hope it didn’t bother you. @ Hal: Yes, you might be right; I see the glass as half empty though, while you see it as half full.
