"Why do you take the fact that we are talking about a great band as a reason to give a 5 to each of their albums indiscriminately?"

Of course, you’re not really getting this. You take the fact that we’re talking about a group as a reason to give every one of their albums a 5 without distinction. I can’t otherwise explain your 5/5 for an album like Deadwing, especially since it came out after In Absentia and is inferior to it, which suggests an even more downward path. So, I’m not a disciple of my favorite bands; they are not a religion to which I must obey just because they release something new. So beyond all the affection I have for Wilson, who has done a lot of great things, if one of his albums is not a masterpiece, I say so and I don’t give it a 5. Albums rated 4 or 5 cannot be those that stand on 2 or 3 beautiful songs with all the others being merely ā€œnice.ā€ Many people dislike Porcupine Tree precisely because of your attitude of idolizing even the clearly inferior works they have produced.

Okay, I ended up in the Porcupine Tree fan club, I should have realized it sooner. Anyway, I’m sorry, but Signify, The Sky Moves Sideways, On the Sunday of Life, and Up the Downstair, along with Coma Divine, remain significantly superior to the later works, in which the band often falls into a polished and well-played pop rock that is compositionally inferior. I’m someone who doesn’t have my eyes covered, and I feel that it’s actually not true at all that they became the real Porcupine Tree with Stupid Dream. It’s in Signify that there was the greatest cohesion within the group, with all the members from Maitland to Barbieri well blended together. Sure, someone who says that Even Less makes them dream and then complains about those who listen to Oasis and Britpop doesn’t seem quite right to me, but it is what it is. I’m an admirer of Porcupine Tree, but that doesn’t mean I have to consider everything they do as pure gold.

"To say there’s a decline starting from stupid dream (which, subjectively, can be considered one of their best or even the best of their albums) seems like an insult." ------> No, that’s not true. If I tell you Vaffanculo, it’s an insult; otherwise, no, it’s just a personal opinion. Anyway, stupid dream is lacking compared to all their previous works: 1) even less is a nice little rock pop piece, 2) piano lesson is mediocre, both in music and vocals, and so on. The only tracks that hold up against the past from that album are: "Don't hate me," "Tinto Brass," and "stop swimming."

"and moreover, in a boring way"----> It's never boring to learn these things. For me, it's always shameful and unacceptable. It never leaves me indifferent.

I, on the other hand, really needed it. Because in the documentaries about beavers and Berlusconi, they didn't "draw" an ending like the one in his film, sarcastic in the most cutting and deliberately excessive way, even in the visual representation. The ending of that film is a masterpiece, also because of how Moretti acts.

"It is impossible NOT to do politics with cinema" ------> I always try to keep the two things separate. And being convinced of Moretti's talent, I always try to leave political discussions out. Because I know that for many, he is bothersome because of that.

The movie sucks because it pretends to be a film, but instead it’s just crap. The only Pieraccioni film I can give a higher score to is "Il Ciclone" (I'd give it a two), because it’s somewhat funny and is also full of hot chicks. That’s the only quality thing in Pieraccioni's films. As for Ceccherini, I’d like to stick a bomb up his ass, who knows, maybe when it explodes, it'll wake up that dumbfounded face of his.

Of course he said something new: in Italy, it is not possible to create art or propose culture. They cut your legs off. If there is truly a message in that film, it is not about Berlusconi; Berlusconi is not the point. The message is: new artists are not given the opportunity to express themselves here in Italy (specifically a young director). And that is absolutely true. It can even be generalized to scientists and researchers. Researchers in Italy often have to survive without the ambition of combining passion, research, intellectual honesty, and a salary. But I am getting a bit carried away.
