Really beautiful album, this debut from Kula Shaker. They had all these '70s influences but really well mixed; it's a shame they blew up too soon. Tattva and Govinda remain memorable.

Sorry for interjecting: well, to be honest, there is a very true singer-songwriter on Iside's list, Battiato, but frankly, I don't think that's the point. Nor that Vasco is better or worse than those mentioned. The point, I believe, is whether Vasco has brought his own uniqueness as an author or not. And I think that's indisputable. He pays his debts (like everyone) to other artists, it's obvious, among whom I'd like to remember the Skiantos (who, wrongly, are never mentioned among Vasco's influences), but he quickly finds his own original formula. Then he completely ruins his reputation, it's true, who denies it? But if De Gregori pays tribute to him by reinterpreting "Vita Spericolata" (and even De André had notable respect for him), it's absolutely no coincidence.

If that's the case, Tony Levin also played with Ivano Fossati in the beautiful Macramè, where he was also a co-writer on a track if I remember correctly. Just to emphasize that there’s much more to Italian music than Alice and "some group" to "save."

Of course, if it exists on Google, it means it's true, right... :-\ Damn, this one deserves it.

I understand, of course. For me, the peak of Fossati's "ethnic" phase is Discanto, and then, in my opinion, there's a gradual march towards a re-approach to Western musical sounds that culminates in a rediscovery of the electric guitar that we have with L'arcangelo.

"Recalling the gestation of Anime Salve, Ivano mentioned that the biggest point..." otherwise it doesn't make sense.

@Grasshopper: do you find Macramè so ethnic after all? To me, it sounds like a (beautiful) record that is much more Western in its tones compared to its (beautiful) predecessors. I also remember an interview where, recalling the gestation of Anime Salve, the biggest point of disagreement with De André was precisely Faber's desire to continue down the path of ethnic orchestration, while Fossati, according to his own words, wanted to distance himself from it a bit. I see Macramè in this light. What do you think?

Beautiful review for an author I love very much, but an album that unforgivably still lacks in my Fossetian collection. What a shame.

Who is (or was) the greatest band in the world is a debate best left to the latest radio poll. I mean, even if we sequester all the music critics in the world in a hermitage for a year, we wouldn’t come out with a name that satisfies everyone. Then there’s the question of what criteria and parameters to use... Obviously, there are few reliable candidates. But actually... when you think about it... Bon Jovi...

@josi, I think he does, then we can have a different idea of what "insulting" means, but I believe that someone who calls other people's ideas "nonsense" doesn't have much respect and isn't really interested in actually reading them. And since I’m in no way inclined to engage in a who's got the bigger (tongue) contest on a website, frankly, I have better things to do.
