Exactly. The poetic nature of Storia di un impiegato is a bit more dated, precisely because of all the considerations made by TinyBanks. An exceptional period document, therefore, but lacking the immortality and expansive breath of the other mentioned albums. Furthermore, it seems to me that even musically, despite Piovani's excellent work, it is a notch below the others. Moreover, even De André did not consider it particularly successful.

Without taking anything away from De André, I would remove Storia di un impiegato from the list, which, although it is an important work, in my view is not a masterpiece.

An excellent review indeed for a cornerstone album of Italian music. I join grasshopper in highlighting the fact that this absolute masterpiece could only arise from the artistic collaboration of two giants of singer-songwriter music like De André and Fossati.

The common sense of MILLIONS of people and DOZENS of critics is certainly more important than that of ONE loser writing on debaser to play the supposed music connoisseur. The fact that the same person may not understand a whole series of things is irrelevant for the reader but in itself quite revealing. Oh, by the way, this record is not psychedelia, not even in its intentions.

From the review, it emerges that Breathe and Us & Them have the same meaning: the power of copy and paste. An album that, like all masterpieces, inevitably attracts reviews and comments, almost all of which are invariably nonsense.

Insufficient review, an album about which everything has already been said on these pages but which is worth revisiting a year later, still proving to be a work supported by decent inspiration and solid class.

For heaven's sake, everyone has their own opinion, but hearing that Battisti was just an interpreter (just like Nilla Pizzi, in short, the same!) is breaking news from the series "you never stop learning." To call Prospettiva Nevski trivial means that you've only heard it by chance once and understood absolutely nothing. With all due respect, let's not speak nonsense about what, as is evident, we don't know. Let's just say that we don't like it and we're not interested.
Franco Battiato Il Vuoto

A decent analysis that, however, stops just short of what is necessary, because behind the seemingly (?) "banality" lies a concept album that is almost an initiatory journey (the sequence of the songs is a path). The music is highly inspired, sunny, and meditative, and while it may lack the rock energy of Dieci stratagemmi and Gommalacca, it compensates with an airiness reminiscent of other times. A class-act pop Battiato, only seemingly easy. The album requires at least 5-6 listens before its sophisticated melodies settle into the mind, and I think of a gem like Tiepido aprile. Just a step away from masterpiece status. Four and a half stars rounded up to 5. For the review, I deduct a point for the use of the abominable word "song," which truly can no longer be tolerated.

As a musician, there's simply no comparison.

To the sacred names that cptgaio has mentioned (four giants, there's not much to debate), I would also add at least Guccini, and Dalla despite his unfortunate decline, as well as Vecchioni. And let's not forget two extraordinary yet atypical singer-songwriters like Battisti and Gaber. All figures, for different reasons, certainly superior to Gaetano in my opinion.
