beautiful beautiful beautiful, that year (1980) Edo devoured all of Battisti, included. Best LP of the year if another masterpiece hadn't come out in December!!

PERCY, you say: "In my opinion, no, because they are too different even though they belong to the same genre." I think (and not just me) that De André and Battisti do not belong to the same genre; it’s the journalists who slap labels on them, and often they don’t know what they’re talking about. Battisti shouldn't be compared to any Italian songwriter. At most, we can compare him to the great composers of the 20th century, musically innovative within the stale/pop music of Italian music (it's not like we are better off now than in the '60s). If only we had more artists like that. @@@ The poetic quality of De André’s lyrics is not remotely comparable to the sarcastic and angry lyrics written by Luporini for Gaber, not to mention the musical exploration conducted by Fabrizio. Luporini/Gaber criticized the then Christian Democratic governments, while De André focused on the most vulnerable segments of society, accusing all of society of being hypocritical. @@@@ Clapton vs J.J. Cale could only make sense if we are talking about how to play the guitar, and here Mr. Clapton should bow a thousand times and kneel on chickpeas for three days. As for Hendrix, let's leave him where he is...

"Humanity is divided into 5 categories: men, half-men, little men, (with all due respect) crapheads, and the quaquaraquà. Very few are the men; the half-men are few, and I would be content if humanity stopped at the half-men. But no, it sinks even lower, to the little men: who are like children who think they are grown-ups, monkeys imitating the moves of the grown-ups. And even lower: the crapheads, who are becoming an army. And finally the quaquaraquà: who should live with ducks in the puddles, for their life has no more meaning and expression than that of ducks."
