Edoardo Bennato is a genius.......
This album is a great album.......
Many of today's pseudo singer-songwriters should listen to it, those who shoot straight to the top of the charts after a single radio play.......
Here Edoardo showcases his flair by mixing fairy tale and reality with an irony that has somewhat been lost over the years (although in his "Uomo occidentale" you can catch a glimpse of the glory days of this great singer-songwriter. I've always considered Edoardo the most innovative and brilliant of our singer-songwriters and allow me to say also the most versatile....... And versatility belongs only to the GREAT.
"Sono solo canzonette" is an album that should be remembered first of all for three great songs: "L'isola che non c'è" is an immortal track, its music and lyrics blending perfectly; "Sono solo canzonette" is a song full of the irony of this great singer-songwriter; "Il rock di capitano uncino" is a track that even today when I hear it, I can't help but tap my foot.......
However, the album doesn't only live off of these 3 masterpieces: "Ma che sarà" still retains an enviable freshness and rhythm. "Nel covo dei pirati" is a great track where Edoardo's voice is more than ever in the service of the fairy tale he narrates; "Rockcoccodrillo" is a highly rhythmic and enjoyable piece; "Dopo il liceo che potevo far" is a deliberately retro, very successful song; finally, "Tutti insieme lo denunciam" is an experiment where Edoardo engages with opera music....
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listen to this album.......
And remember.......
The X factor isn't about appearing in prime time on national TV mimicking some famous singer.......
"Sono solo canzonette" is a sincere and true Bennato, an extravagant performer who tells music critics to be content with the simple singer’s job.
‘They are just little songs, what did you expect...!’
"Sono solo canzonette" is a carefree, cheerful, and fun tune in pure Bennato style.
Some albums speak for themselves and are pieces of music history.
