the vexata quaestio of objectivity in judging beauty (can we speak of objectivity in this field?) sees me, at the moment, inclined to deny the sensibility of it...

premise: I don't like Vasco, especially his recent oceanic gatherings... however, I find him to be a passionate character; I quite like him and back in the days of his early releases, he really stirred things up, shocking conventional Italy: I can't help but consider the lyrics of 'fegato spappolato', for example, (still amusing to this day) better than the example you mentioned, something that was a brick thrown through the windows of the prudes (I remember a detail: a photo in a porn magazine of the time where the women in the foreground had a train in the background on which was spray-painted 'w vasco'; at that time, it was a bit of a symbol of 'genuine' transgression...); besides that song, there are others from that era that I still enjoy...

Manu Chao Siberie m'etait contéee

Yeah, I agree with you KK5, you really need to be Parisian to fully appreciate it, or at least know Paris well... In fact, a friend of mine who moved there and has a Parisian partner gifted it to me (at my request)... One evening he started explaining a bit about the comics to me (I don't understand a thing in French) and the references and citations that also came up from the songs; there are many wordplays and allusions to Parisian reality: the title itself refers to a saying... 'si Paris m'etait contée' literally means 'if Paris had been told to me' but popularly stands for 'if I had known...' and the wordplay with Siberia clearly alludes to a cold place, presumably the dark side of Paris, or what one wants to grasp... I mention this also to clarify that Manu Chao, often deemed superficial by those who saw him at the top of the charts with 'Me gusta La Coruna, me gustas tu...' is actually a complex artist in his meta-linguistic references, as my Parisian friend confirmed to me, both in terms of lyrics and music (sometimes he plays with popular melodies overlaying them with his songs, like in 'Helno est mort' where musically he takes inspiration from a little song about Pierrot going up to heaven...)

I confirm the anonymous: enough with this story of dead rock... either it died before it was born or otherwise it's still alive, original and quality bands (imho) are still around today. If you don't know them, take a look at this site, click on the year of the album on the review page at the top, choose a year after '90 (by the way, '91 was fantastic) and pick some albums with samples, that way you'll get an idea...

well, it's not that I can't see a variation at the end of the piece... the noisy variation was fine too... but the one that's there feels like a variation of 'cac'm'o'cazz' :D ; well, de gustibus carthago delenda est...
