The review is not bad, but I think you should do a more in-depth analysis of the music on the album to create a more cohesive discussion. I'm not familiar with the album; in fact, it's exactly the genre I don't know. See you soon!

Well, thank you!

I completely disagree; this album is a milestone, perfection in metal. If you don’t like it, that's a different story.

Extremely overrated as an author, that's it. I have Guero, it's a good album, but sometimes originality at all costs is the most trivial thing there is.
Francesco De Gregori Live@Bologna, 11/09/1993, bootleg

Great review, De Gregori live is quite controversial for the reason you explain well in the review. I like his tendency to bring back lesser-known songs, but in my opinion, he shouldn't give up the classics from his discography.

@Walterstarman: I repeat, I used that phrase from Freddy Mercury to express my opinion, I kind of weaponized it, because in my opinion the expression he coined to describe his music (I really don’t care if he said it ironically or seriously, after all Mercury also dabbled in works of far greater stature in his solo career, it seems to me…) fits perfectly. Then, the fact that their music is just fun is evident, and there’s nothing wrong with that because rock music is primarily entertainment. What I’m saying is that I don’t like their way of entertaining (even though I have to admit that Freddy Mercury is fantastic live, perhaps the best ever). Bye! :-)

Okay, if someone wants to listen to sophisticated stuff, they don't listen to rock or hard rock but at most progressive... however, I believe there are ways and ways to make rock, and in my humble opinion, Queen did not make rock. Or rather, in their early days, their music sounded very hard rock glam, and while not presenting anything transcendental compared to the tradition of those genres, they were still a group of considerable respect. At a certain point, their sound became incredibly bastardized, and rock was overwhelmed by a hodgepodge of sampled sounds, keyboards, and kitschy synthesizers to an unbelievable extent. And this mess of tricks, I repeat, of very bad taste often ruined very beautiful songs like I Want To Break Free and A Kind Of Magic, just to name two famous examples, songs that indeed in live performances showed a charge and an energy that was rock. In the studio versions of many songs, the guitar is hardly audible; in short, rock is another thing in my opinion. Nonetheless, they remain the best pop band on the planet; if only pop were all like this...

@Percy: As always, a phrase is taken out of context and misunderstood: I don't care how Mercury viewed his music, I simply quoted one of his statements (certainly provocative) to highlight how, even in its irony, that statement captured exactly the soul and reason for being of Queen's music, which is disposable music, to listen to and forget. Pop in one word. I also mentioned that there are exceptions like that dozen of beautiful songs such as Under Pressure or masterpieces like Bohemian Rhapsody or Innuendo or Who Wants To Live Forever. Naturally, this is my opinion, but you can't accuse me of being an anti-Queen supporter a priori. I base my views on the songs, and I see that there are many beautiful songs, but unfortunately, even more songs of poor quality. That's all. See you soon :-)

I agree with London, who raised another point: the technical and compositional mediocrity of the 4 (apart from, I repeat, that dozen beautiful songs pulled out of the hat, who knows how).

The album is painful, like much of Queen's discography in my opinion: I believe that the greatness of Queen was in that handful of legendary songs scattered across albums of overall rather low quality in my view. As for the dance drift, I won’t even dare to express myself; I hope it’s clear that Queen are NOT a rock band, nor hard rock, nor glam, nor prog, but are a group of "disposable" music as the very happy Freddy Mercury himself said. Only Under Pressure is saved, which falls into that dozen of legendary tracks; for the rest, the album is trash. The review is good, but the track-by-track has never thrilled me...
