I wonder how they do it live... will they bring a real choir?

Perfectly in agreement with the reviewer, this album is the summa of prog-metal. The comparison with DT (which there might actually be) is better left unsaid; I'm not sure if DT, especially the more recent ones, would come out on top... I fully agree with the discussion about Romeo, a fantastic prog-metal guitarist, perhaps THE ultimate prog-metal guitarist because, it’s true, he has extraordinary technique, but this never detracts from the music and is always functional to achieving a final result, which in this case is truly perfect (the subsequent albums are also great, even if perhaps not at the level of this one). Speaking of the title track (majestic, that initial choir is performed by a real choir or is it overdubs or simply Allen's voice processed by computer?

Nice review, surprisingly not among the recommended ones. The album is very refined, for those who didn't know, on the official site of the band it's possible to listen to ALL the albums in streaming at a decent quality... Truly a great Kevin Moore. Well done for bringing it back to attention.

Also because listening to the Beatles is always a great pleasure, but there's a limit to everything...

But I don't understand one thing: are these remasterings or re-recordings? And in the latter case, who performed them? The surviving Beatles? The wives? Or do they all have nothing to do with it? In short, WHAT IS THIS RECORD and why didn't you say it? Yes, you gave me about twenty reasons to listen to it, but if I don't know what it is, I'll never listen to it. Of course, it remains a commercial operation. I'm waiting for clarification from those who have listened to this record.

DaveJonGilmour writes: "Finally, if you allow me, I thank you only for those reasonable things you've said." I mean, for you, only the things you agree with are reasonable; everything else is nonsensical, "bullshit," and so on with the insults... but do you realize that your stance reeks of delusions of grandeur? I think the drugs you boast about taking have fried your synapses. See you soon, anyway.

Well, Dave, you keep judging the pointless comments of those who think differently from you. And in the end, as far as I understand, I'm not allowed to have opinions and tastes different from yours. Okay, I'll live just fine anyway; honestly, I’m too tired to argue with someone who always responds to me with an insult because the things he likes are beautiful and no one can say otherwise. Until the next review.

@DaveJohnGilmour: "Integralism: a conception or political, economic, cultural, etc., attitude that tends to reject the coexistence of differing ideas and positions, dismissing as unacceptable all opinions that differ from one's own." It seems written for you. I must say you have quite an eccentric view of freedom of opinion: if for me Barrett's records are rubbish, they're rubbish, period. There's no way you can call someone an idiot for not thinking like you. I mean, you can obviously do it, and I wouldn’t even be offended, but it's inevitable to be judged as an integralist. Moreover, this attitude surprises me because I had never noticed it in your comments on other reviews. Anyway, I've only expressed my opinions, without offending anyone, and I reiterate that with Barrett they could never have conceived masterpieces like the ones mentioned, simply because his artistic personality is strongly limited and totally flattened in the psychedelic genre (not to mention the appalling technical-vocal gaps). Then you write: "And the other nonsense you say is that they had already faded with 'A saucerful of secrets,' but then you consider The Wall a masterpiece... it seems like a contradiction, a nonsense indeed." I don't see where the contradiction is: I was saying that the "psychedelic" Floyd had faded, and if Gilmour hadn't come to breathe new life into their sound and if that genius Waters hadn't taken the reins of the situation (that guy is a genius..) they would have ended up as just a simple relic of '68. Instead, they became a legend. Anyway, I've also read the subsequent comments: you should learn to accept others' opinions and relax when you talk about music.

The Genesis ARE progressive: elaborate scores, perfectly balanced instruments, majestic vocal interpretation, never an excessive solo or virtuosity for its own sake, but everything aimed at building a piece (calling it a song seems a bit reductive). This album is fantastic, but I wouldn’t know whom to award the title of best album, whether to this one or to Selling England By The Pound (perhaps to the latter). A rather imprecise and somewhat superficial review.

DaveJonGilmour, you demonstrate an obscene obtuseness in calling someone an idiot just because they express a different opinion than yours. In any case, saying that Barrett is a great guitarist and that in terms of composition he is superior to Gilmour, in my opinion, means distorting reality: without Gilmour and with Barrett, the Floyd would have faded (in fact, they had already faded with A Sacerfoul Of Secrets, only to recover brilliantly with More and Ummagumma), and they could never have conceived, with such an approximate musician and composer, masterpieces like Atom Heart Mother, Alan Psychedelic Breakfast, Echoes, The Dark Side Of The Moon, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Dogs, The Wall, and I’ll stop here. In short, it seems history is on my side. Anyway, I’ll stop here, as I feel like the black sheep of the group and I wouldn’t want to be insulted further. The tones of a brawl do not belong to me. Until next time.
