Why buy this record, since we already know the Beatles by heart?
... because it’s that group from the '60s where John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr played together;
... because the remastered tracks have an AMAZING sound, the intro of "I Am The Walrus" is a movie for the ears (to quote Zappa), while the wonderful yet refined three-part harmony of "Because" reminds you of the Beatles. Damn, they ARE the Beatles!
... because it’s a unique 78-minute suite (the younger ones will pretend to fall asleep but then will listen to it secretly);
... because while you listen, you forget that this new financial bill is quite heavy;
... because there's "Something", "my favorite Lennon-McCartney piece," as Frank Sinatra once said live. (Actually, the piece is by Harrison, but after all, singers are made, not born).
... because the solo in "The End" by Ringo Starr is heard in stereo, with guitar solos starting on both channels and dissolving into the opening chord of "A Hard Day's Night", while the American groove of "Get Back" begins;
... because they are songs that still rock today and send shivers down the spine to everyone who has loved the original vinyls for years or the tapes recorded from rented CDs when there were still rentals. I remember, there was one here in Rome near a place selling croissants for 500 lire, then it was shut down. (The rental, not the croissant place);
... because they are the most rightfully valued group in the world, even Hegel and his cultural operators could not think otherwise;
... because George Martin's son, one of the curators of the operation, was a member of Kula Shaker;
... because it does not in any way undermine the previous and official discography, it rather elevates and exalts it to a work of absolute art;
... because they are the presentation of the remasters of the back catalogue coming out next year, and if the sound is so crystal-clear... everyone will be ready with their checks!
... because the finale of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" has never sounded so metal;
... because there's "Here Comes The Sun";
... because there's the Indian melody of "Within You Without You" sung over the bass and drums of "Tomorrow Never Knows". (how does it feel to be a copycat, Chemical Noel?)
... because Ringo was the funniest of them all, and not such a bad drummer. Damn, in forty years what will we say about Jonas Wanigen then?
... because "Gnik Nus" is not a side project of Gnarls Barkley, but "Sun King" backwards;
... because there's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" in an acoustic-demo version with strings that reportedly moved Harrison's widow to tears;
... because there's "Strawberry Fields Forever" which unfolds in a triumph of quotations, from the harpsichord of "Piggies" to the speed-varied solo in "Penny Lane", from the little voices in "Hello Goodbye" to the merry and somewhat poppy horns of "Sgt. Peppers";
... because there's "Sgt. Peppers reprise", my friend Jollyman's favorite track;
... because the solo in "Taxman" was played by McCartney (here inserted in a bold mix of "Drive My Car", "What You're Doing", and "The Word";
... because the drums on "Back in the USSR" were played by McCartney after a fight with Starr;
... because "Hey Jude" was written by McCartney (here in an almost "gospel" version with a renewed ending);
... because "Come Together" is "Come Together", and John Lennon had talent to spare;
... because the distorted guitar that opens "Revolution" makes Don Caballero seem like Den Harrow's backing band;
... because it kicks ass, AND THAT'S IT!
In short, not buying this record automatically qualifies you asIDIOTS.
