Mark Knopfler Sailing To Philadelphia

How does Mark Knopfler get on your nerves?

EXTRAORDINARY ARTIST, TECHNICALLY UNMATCHABLE SINGER, SUBLIME OR ORIGINAL COMPOSER. This record is the apotheosis of his class and refinement. "All In Love Is Fair" has the power to move me every time I hear it. It is an abomination that so little is said about a genius like this, so THANK YOU to Luca Jurman who, in the sea of ignorance of "Amici" di Maria De Filippi, has found a way to make this extraordinary composer and singer, as well as multi-instrumentalist, known at least a little. A "bravo" to the reviewer for the proposal, with the advice to improve the exposition.

Finally, I agree with those who find his voice boring, contrived, and fake. In a word, disgusting, as it has been aptly said.

No offense, but a few more commas wouldn't have hurt. The album lacks any artistic value as it's been crafted on purpose to highlight the peculiarities of Ferreri's voice, which seems more like a sideshow act than that of a singer: people are mostly intrigued by her voice, and it seems everyone is milking this for all it's worth. She's framed in an R&B context similar to Winehouse, but in comparison to the exceptionally talented English singer, our former cashier comes away battered, even vocally.

Of course, it was in a provocative-ironical tone. Isn't it true?

Let's leave Jim Morrison aside.. his persona is completely unique, so I don't think it can be effectively compared to that of other frontmen.. A little provocation (I know very well that they are two unreachable singers): in my opinion, Roger Daltrey has a more complete and expressive voice than that of Plant.

I agree, however, that she is a singer who has made history and managed to do things with her voice that are truly unthinkable for most of her peers. Ian Gillan impresses even more in terms of high notes, but in terms of timbre, I find him much less interesting and expressive.

@cornell: Modestly, I play lead guitar and sing in a cover band. We also play songs by Led Zeppelin. What you say about Plant's voice is partly understandable, but I would like to emphasize that hitting those high notes doesn’t equate to knowing how to sing. Plant's voice was a primordial wail: he didn’t sing in tune but reached those crazy notes by unnaturally straining his throat, which is why he lost his voice back in the '80s. With this, I absolutely do not want to diminish the importance of this singer who, in my opinion, represents the epitome of hard rock, but it’s clear that Plant, like almost all of his peers, never took a lesson, and probably didn’t even know where his diaphragm was...

I have to tell the truth, I find this album less "crucial" than many other Beatles records. My favorite is Rubber Soul, magical, divine. It's clear that we are talking about History, so how can you not give top marks to an album like this? I need to listen to it again. I agree with everything the reviewer says, especially the last sentence: the magic of the Beatles was in their chemistry, that's what sets them apart from all other bands, that's probably the true added value of this band.
