Here I am, responding to everyone:
@JohnofPatmos: you are really too kind!!
@Odradek: I saw the Palastorchester in concert in February. I would love to review that concert but today it might feel a bit old. Their instrumental and philological expertise is great, and hearing Max Raabe introduce the pieces in his Italian is worth a good 33% of the ticket price. Maybe even 34%. I will review an album of the Palast sooner or later.
@Iside: don’t be so down; you make me feel sad.
@morningstar: it’s worth what I said to JohnofPatmos.;)
@leonid: I started here, with The Threepenny Opera. But the albums "Ute Lemper sings Kurt Weill" are nice too. If you feel brave, there are the versions by Weill's wife, Lotte Lenya.
@burns: I haven't heard her version of "Mack the Knife" but frankly, Nick Cave, with all due respect, makes my stomach churn. And the modern versions of Weill's songs that I’ve heard (including the one by the Doors) are beautiful, but if you know the originals...
@Festwca: It doesn’t seem to me that there’s any challenge going on, let alone any prizes to be won. Besides, the review on Pentangle that you liked so much was as long as this one. Anyway, if you find my reviews too long, start reading, get to halfway, stop, breathe, drink something, or, if you smoke, have a cigarette, and then, if you feel ready – and I emphasize if you feel ready – continue and get to the end. As long as you want to read, to be clear.:).
@Zarathustra: what I said to Festwca holds for you too. Hello everyone.
