"nobody sounds like Fugazi" <<< Fugazi are unmatchable, especially the vocals... but the guitars and the rhythm section have been attempted by many to replicate, with results that are sometimes original and sometimes mediocre...

Well, come on, let's not exaggerate, it seems to me one of the most interesting discussions of recent times... always better than insulting each other or childishly bickering about politics & religion...

Indeed, fest, everything depends on how one conceives and interprets rock: there are those who see it as something creative and open to all kinds of contamination (and so they include people like Wyatt or Zappa in rock); while others view it as a poor art, humble, simple, immediate, aimed at channeling formal exploration into the tracks of maximum emotional output...

eheh this is exactly where the donkey falls… are we sure that psychedelia was the most "weighty" movement in the history of rock… and if so, what type of rock? and if "true" rock were the negation of psychedelia? if "true" rock is what denied the jams, the digressions, the trips, to confine itself to the magical 4 chords, the verse-chorus structure, immediate communication, expressive urgency, executional humility? ;-) (these are all hypotheses, of course...) One thing is certain: that crazy person who considered the 80's underground to be poco comunicativo clearly does not know the meaning of the term "communicative."
