I only heard Ptooff... nice, but I don't feel like digging deeper... better than the Fugs, that's for sure...

Spelling mistakes aside, I was expecting a bit more from this review in terms of content... regarding the album, it has a sound that I really don't like, too flat... the first EP from '85 is much better, both in terms of production and songs... Squirrel Bait really knew how to handle their instruments... the drummer made the difference... in the mid-'80s, they illustrated the near future of American independent rock, designing prototypes for indie, for emo (the good kind), for grunge, etc... their songs were indeed melodic, as Alessio says, but far from joyful: they were dark melodies, capable of opening paths to abysses of anguish and despair that even Husker Du couldn't match at times... listen to the chorus of Hammering So Hard and then tell me if it doesn't give you chills...

eheh I'm still stuck on the album recommended by MAH! (World Machine, a great soft-funky disc from the '80s) by the way: MAH!, tell me about Ridgeway!! What do you think?!

I also wanted to review this album... the style is a bit didactic, but since you’re just starting out, I’ll give you a solid 5 as encouragement... Metal Circus is the best album by HD, in my opinion... even better than Zen Arcade... @vellutogrigio: the comparison with Minutemen doesn’t make much sense... they are really two different things...

It drags on a bit in the long run, but it's worth it...if nothing else, it's an ambitious album and largely successful...for the rest, it's not their fault that Fripp, Rez, and their experimental crew in the 70s were already projected into the 21st century...

cool...psycho-samba, this was the only thing missing...let's just hope it’s not as dull as Glauber Rocha's films! :-/

Well, clearly the power is from another planet compared to the Creedence, but the cadence, the vocal arrangement, the chorus, that whole aura of darkness and perdition is Fogarty-esque in every way, as I see it...
