wonderful review, you really hit the mark... it's not so much a film about the impossibility of happiness, but rather about the INABILITY of it... it's a beacon in that medieval period (not yet over and perhaps definitive) that has been Italian cinema since the 80s...

I would love to see this movie... Garrone is one of my favorite contemporary directors... I agree that in Italy there is a lack of a sense of state, civil coexistence, and solidarity... everyone is just looking out for their own little garden, as they say... the reason for all this is obviously just one: IGNORANCE, always the preferred tool for subjugating the common people of paesanotti and mbugiki (or however the hell you spell it)...

Aside from the conclusive Lynchian reference, it's one of the best reviews I've read recently... it brilliantly frames the "music" of the TJ, highlighting its distinctive aspects ("we listeners are on that abyss, the guitar raises stalagmites at the bottom, the drums are a killer with a double-edged knife approaching from behind... Lunch the solitary voice from the other side screaming to throw ourselves in")... indeed, this has been one of the most radical bands that rock has ever proposed: every element is stripped down to the essentials, where "essential" means "naked and raw"... the TJ are the band you would never want to listen to: it's the sore spot in the history of rock...
