Swell Maps A Trip To Marineville
Voto:
damn that filthy whore I wanted to review these...fantastic album, ahead of its time: it connects to the more transgressive rock experiences of the past (Velvet Underground, especially the boogie-noise White Light White Heat; Red Crayola, those free-form interludes; but also the German noise artists of the early 70's) to establish the most unpleasant sounds of the 80's: Sonic Youth owe their ass to Swell Maps, just like so much of that indie and so much of that lo-fi...in this album, spectacular Harmony (try listening to it in the shower and let me know...), Gun Boats (a spaceship haunted by spirits), Full Moon (with that Neu-like rhythm)...the Swell Maps were too forward-thinking! in the field of modern incandescent noise-rock pioneers, they surpass their contemporaries MX-80 Sound...

nice... but after a while they get boring... of this kind, much better the Generation X by Billy Idol...
Melvins Nude With Boots

"The main influences of the Melvins during that period, according to Buzz, are Black Sabbath, Flipper, and the Black Flag of My War" <<< which are basically the same as those of grunge (all except for the melodic and acoustic ones, which are quite a few, by the way)...the band doesn't inspire me...the review does...bye! Pretax :-)

recently reviewed... poetry and philosophy hand in hand... lofty themes (God, Evil, Nature, Man)... creative language (great use of voice-over, subjective shots, psychological editing)... this film deserves to be part of the prestigious family of Dovzhenko (first reference), Dreyer, Bergman, Renoir... the climax scene, the conceptual core of the film is, in my opinion, that of the Yankee assault on the Japanese: in those seconds of suspense between the approach and the possible strike delivered (like in a fencing match), one can see the thin red line...

the name of the band makes me grin... then I really like these conceptual reviews... chapeau...

No damn it... three pathetic comments for this EPIC record don't make any sense... great revival and great new-wave... a blueprint for all the garage-punk and power-pop bands with female vocals that followed (Go-Go's, X, Runaways, Suzy, X-Ray Spex, Heart, Tourists, Katrina & The Waves and down to the Fastbacks)...

This album is indeed a bit unsettling... it's also an unusually cohesive work for Rez, who were used to changing their sound at every turn...

I listened to it! Amazing! The instrumental Delicious Hot is so beautiful... and also Intro and Outro, later plagiarized by Oldfield... thanks again for the suggestion, Laggio... bye! :-)
