Agreed even with a mixed perspective...it's also worth mentioning, however, that the situation between the two "factions" is often quite "asymmetrical": those who know alternative music usually know commercial music as well (because that's where every teenager starts their musical education, give me a break!); but do those who only listen to commercial music know the Big Black? Perhaps they do, for goodness' sake...but that's not the case with the people I hang out with (all exegetes of metal or the infamous pre-77 rock!)

I agree, tiny, but I’d like to make a clarification, starting from your phrase: "you yourself are the one who inserts yourself into a small group of people" <<< be careful: I would gladly do without that "smallness"... if 80% of young Italians listened to, for example, my beloved Big Black, I would jump for joy to the ceiling! I’m not pleased at all that I don’t have even one acquaintance (besides you guys from Debaser, of course...) who listens to Big Black, and even less do I go around bragging about it; rather, I would love for the people I associate with regularly to get into Big Black too. In a few words: I listen to Big Black because I like them, not certainly because only a handful of people pay attention to them!

@Tiny: yes, but if you play Unsane to the middle school kids at the party, you might risk a lawsuit for injuries (to the eardrums)! :-)

But why does someone who listens to niche bands have to be AUTOMATICALLY labeled as a snob???!!! :-(((

@mista: "I can barely stand the latent sense of superiority towards" <<< erm, sorry but...shall we talk about the sense of superiority (read: arrogance) of those who only listen to commercial stuff and then come to you, who listens to "Walterstarman's nightmare bands," and say: "What the hell are you listening to??? Don't you see that you're the only one who knows them??? They don't even have solos! Where did you fish them out from! What have you lost your mind???

In the meantime, I've read them all too (the comments + the review) and I agree with bjorky: truly a memorable page. A 5 goes to Grass's review and all the comments that followed. Regarding the musical knowledge of the people I know, let’s drop a merciless veil. They don't even remember the Pearl Jam. They joke about Sanremo and then download all the songs in the competition. They say: “what a pile of crap that last song by Giovanotti is, it’s unlistenable!” Just enough time, for the radio and TV, to pump it up properly... and like magic, it becomes the hit of the year! "Well, if it was successful, there must be a reason for it, right? So there's no reason why I shouldn't like it too." In my opinion, that garbage should be boycotted: and instead, there are those who, ashamed to know Sun Ra, feel the need to say “well, this year Sanremo wasn’t that bad,” lying, just to avoid looking alternative. It’s unbearable. To hell with them, they don’t know what they’re missing. Oh, not even the Pearl Jam!!! :-(

"I would make the 3 years of middle school one year of rock, one of jazz, and one of classical music. Two hours a week." <<< good idea, but...what would the curriculum for the subject "Rock" be? Elvis or...Unsane? :-D
P.S. the collective improvisations they made us do on the flute were really great (and obviously they shouldn't have been improvised!)

a bit cold, but they sound good... I found them very relaxing, but not very exciting... they vaguely remind me of Tortoise, in terms of sound... very abstract... Spacca is right: the synth sounds like it was stolen from the early Daddy Ubu records! :-)

Thank goodness there are still good people out there, like those at Rolling Stone magazine, who have placed 4 albums by the Baronets in the top 10 of the greatest albums of all time (but those bastards too: come on, let's be honest, a group like the Beatles deserved at least 11 albums in the Top Ten!!!)
