I quote the second-to-last post by Iride... it’s a bit the same discussion that you have to have about those who go to the Gods of Metal at 10 in the morning and until Iron Maiden or Manowar come on stage (at 9 PM), all they do is whistle at the bands that precede them, who might even be better than Manowar, but have had the bad luck of not having all their success... or a bit like those who bombarded the incredibly fun Fastbacks with bottles while waiting for their "teed-idols" of the moment, the boring Pearl Jam... it’s incredible how celebrity culture has taken hold even in so-called "alternative" circles... there are too many sheep around...

Agreed on everything... Bob Bert is better here than in the boring Sonic Youth... of "Passera a volontà" I still prefer the collection Corpse Love, which contains their early works, recorded when they were still in Washington DC... the most grotesque blues-rock ever, pushed beyond the boundaries of noise...

Great Tom Petty! Among the singer-songwriters of the 70s, he was perhaps the most influential (along with Chilton and, for opposite reasons, Neil Young) on the college-rock generation of the 80s (Mats, REM, etc...), because he had that adolescent spirit that was missing in the Boss's music (which was more adult, more tied to a "blue-collar" imagery than to that of "high-school")...a particular song ("American Girl"), seems seminal to me, for its driving melody ("Take it easy babe"), for the minimalist use of the guitar, the exuberant execution...great review too...

I also share Easy's point (aside from the Elio issue)... However, I used to listen to Images And Words quite willingly a few years ago... It doesn't seem soulless to me... Of course, I should give it another listen now, after some time...
