The Genesis were not Gabriel... they were mostly Tony Banks. He was the creative engine, the man with great musical creativity, with fine and delicate taste. When Tony decided that it was time to change, the Genesis changed their music... Phil Collins HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT OR ALMOST... in the pop-rock turning point. ENOUGH WITH THESE FALSEHOODS, it's time to stop telling lies... like the Genesis ended with "The Lamb" (if it weren't for the others, especially Tony, Gabriel wouldn't have finished it), they ended after Steve's departure, Rutherford didn’t play the guitar well... BULLSHIT... tastes are tastes, but don’t spread falsehoods.

The ending of "Abacab" is better live; in the studio, it loses some of its appeal and doesn't manage to have a captivating consistency..something that it instead demonstrates in the live version.

"Abacab" live is something else, very powerful just like "Dodo." A transitional album released quite quickly, the original version was still different and included tracks like "Submarine," "Me And Virgil," "You Might Recall," and "Naminanu," which frame the '81 period of the final tracklist much better and more seriously.

Alice, Battiato, Pio, and Messina have revolutionized the way songs are made in Europe. From cultured quotations, we arrive at a very intriguing, catchy yet substantial form of song. Now, Battiato’s more experimental phase is from the '70s, but "La Voce Del Padrone" with its easy little songs made entirely of citations is phenomenal and not trivial. However, in Battiato, perhaps the music is much simpler than in Alice; "Capo Nord" has, in my opinion, a more complex structure than "Patriots" or "L'era del Cinghiale Bianco"... maybe this is because Alice has a more solid classical basis. For me, there’s always something new to discover in Alice with every listen; in Battiato, not so much... and this makes me prefer her.

In the Genesis of the '80s, there is a constant search for the perfect pop-rock form, in my opinion. This is successful in "Duke," but in "Abacab," things go decidedly worse because they fail to compose simple songs that do not ultimately seem trivial to the listener ("You Might Recall," "Another Record," "Like It Or Not"). They are not trivial, but they pale in comparison to the rest... because if you include "Me And Sarah Jane" and then put "Man On The Corner" on the same album, the difference is evident. The same goes for "Genesis." But it must be noted that the Genesis of the '80s created studio albums without previously developed ideas... it’s all "good on the first try"... few bands have worked this way; it’s very difficult. The Yes of "90125" are children of "Drama."

The cover is from the German edition. In the version "Mondi Lontanissimi," I believe the arrangement of the rhythm section is slightly different; I’m not familiar with that of "Elisir." Anyway, I love Alice much more than Battiato... Alice's music has something magical and mysterious about it... Battiato's is all much more studied and mathematical.

..and no, Collins has little to do with the pop turn of the Genesis. Banks is the main architect...listen to his "The Fugitive" from '82, it's all there, everything they will do afterward as Genesis. Anyway, in "Abacab" there’s the title track, there’s "Dodo," and there’s "Me And Sarah Jane."

...in my stereo system this vinyl sounds amazing!! The rhythmic drum section that opens "Solo Un'Idea" is stunning with the bass at its best...great record deserves an extra star, I was wrong!!

One of the worst live shows ever, a colossal disappointment. Live albums are a different story.
