Coldplay Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends

For me, so far it’s their best LP. Balanced, it references many sources without copying, it may not be innovative but it’s beautiful, rich, and reveals new things after many listens. The intro is stunning, the closing is great too, and in between there are 10 songs (hallelujah just ten! enough with CDs filled with useless stuff!) consistent and very nice. After "X&Y" I feared the worst... instead... WELL DONE!

If he hadn't left the band... They'd probably be doing the same things; Steve didn't matter much, and Banks already had a very clear vision of the future of their music. They couldn't disappear and get stuck on niche sounds.

For me, one of his best albums, practically perfect.

..perhaps the album of their artistic maturity, or at least Banks'; crepuscular, melancholic, and poignant, one of the finest prog albums and a fitting farewell for this genre.

One of the most important records in rock history, it went from seeing thousands of copies sold to millions. Back then, that was the target, the song for the girls that talks about love, but here damn, there are some incredible songs... "All My Loving" above all.

A thank you to those who commented seriously; those who give a one for no reason do not deserve to be taken into account, I'm sorry.

Venditti has undone everything good he has done in his career, and the most glaring example is the free insults he receives from people who haven't even bothered to listen to any of his work before criticizing him. Poor guy... at least listen to "Modena," which is truly worth it as a song, and please stop with the prejudices.

..."Good Sunday" has the same intro as "Don't Stop," it's true..and in "Cuore," listen to "Nessun Video Mai," it's a striking copy of "Cut It Away" by Jackson Browne.

With Venditti, I stop at "Cuore." I'm not a big fan of him as an artist, but in the '70s, he gave a voice and resonance to many Italian issues, and songs like "Sara," "Giulia," "Modena," and even "Sotto Il Segno Dei Pesci" are undoubtedly beautiful songs. I was interested in the period of the reflusso, from '78 to '84, but while "Sotto Il Segno Dei Pesci" is a beautiful album, the ones after '84 are truly disappointing... genuine rubbish.

Also listen to "Capo Nord" by Alice from '80, for me one of the most interesting works of that period. The classic "woman" song form is completely turned upside down, with personal lyrics reflecting a very particular and almost cynical view of human relationships, a brand new and very unique sound (great use of synths and delightful melodic inventions)... "Rumba Rock," "Bazar," "Il Vento Caldo Dell'Estate," "Bael"... what a hell of an album.
