spycore, let's be clear. My "collection of impressions on an album" published on this page is truly terrible and is simply contemptuous. Unfortunately lately (except for rare exceptions) I oscillate between overly thought-out pieces full of verbosity (thankfully never sent to De-Baser) and stuff like this (unfortunately sent) that would like to be spontaneous and natural but are only natural in the sense that they are utter crap. And above all, Linkous, regardless of the value of what he can do, certainly does not deserve such things. Considering the musical crap that's taken so seriously and with such reverence. So, friends...

OK, the problem at this point, I think, is mine. I promise I will listen to it multiple times until I come to like it. And above all, I will avoid listening to the first two to prevent inconceivable and risky comparisons.

Josi, I don’t know. The only thing I can tell you is that a few days ago I listened to Viva and GMS several times. Tears came to my eyes because some songs, lyrics, and music are so wonderful (I think of Saturday, Cow, Sunshine, Come On In, Hundred Of Sparrow). I love those Sparklehorse too much to appreciate these last "plastic" ones (including It's A Wonderful Life, which is not on the level of the first two and is too produced). The difference with the FL is that these last ones continue to surprise me and, above all, manage to keep in check, perhaps due to their great imagination and the courage to take risks (see that crazy dance piece of It Overtakes Me), that intrusive genius Dave Fridmann (unlike Mercury Rev and Mark Linkous).

How clever!! I completely agree with you. We need to stop associating Ravel always and only with the Bolero.

Apologies accepted, no worries. I've experienced the same, not finding the time or desire to listen to certain albums without a real reason behind it. If, as the great J.L. Borges says, every action of ours, even those that seem determined by chance, is largely determined by us even if we are not aware of it, it means that the album doesn’t appeal to you, and that’s not a crime.

I see from your profile that you are a (am I wrong?) big fan of the Sparkle. Sorry if I caused you a pang in your heart...

Let’s say they met the same fate as Mercury Rev and Grandaddy (at least Jason Lytle had the courage to break them up). The only ones from that great group of American indie bands that I loved so much from 1999 onwards who are still alive and doing great are FL, but I also expect a big disappointment from them sooner or later (they’ve hinted at it themselves...)

I just finished commenting on the last one. What nostalgia. However, one thing is not clear to me. You call it a masterpiece right away and then give it 4 stars??

Nick Drake was a big fan of his. After all, it's easy to understand by listening to Fahey's music.
