THE REVIEW

When a disappointment is so intense, rules no longer exist. Clearly, these are my personal opinions. Here is my first truly politically incorrect "collection of impressions on an album" (Josi will forgive me and The Punisher won't accuse me of plagiarism)...

01 - Don't Take My Sunshine Away
Daughter of Good Morning Spider but also of It's a Wonderful Life.
Very formulaic, very well constructed, yet very cute. Score 7.5

02 - Getting It Wrong
Daughter of It's a Wonderful Life without the narcoleptic gentleness of the latter. Very boring. Score 5

03 - Shade and Honey
It reminds me of A Chance at Christmas by FL, but that was explicitly a divertissement, not a track to be included in an album awaited for so many years. And then it was already published. Re-score 5

04 - See the Light
Sorry, can someone bring me a double coffee?? Score 4

05 - Return to Me
Mark, wake up!!!!
Nephew of Saint Mary from GMS. Too bad it also seems a bit like a piece from the Smashing Pumpkins... Score 5

06 - Some Sweet Day
Is it possible to change the tone a bit and maybe even the musical tempo?? Score 4

07 - Ghost in the sky
Finally awake. It's a shame it reminds me too much of Piano Fire from IAWL, but that one is from another planet. Score 5

08 - Mountains
Even tearing down gets tiring. I'd rather not comment. NS (No Score)

09 - Morning Hollow
Daughter of Sad and Beautiful World from Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot (practically a poor copy).
And wasn't it the hidden track on IAWL??? This speaks volumes about the value of this album: score 5

10 - It's Not So Hard
See track #8. NS (No Score)

11 - Knives of Summertime
Without infamy and without praise, and that's not a great thing. Score 6

12 - Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain
I'm not sure but I fear this piece has the hand of Steven Drozd from my beloved Flaming Lips. If so, I'm afraid it's the worst thing he's done.
Ten minutes of nothingness. Score 4

To conclude. Sorry Dave (Fridmann), can you tell me where you've hidden Tom (Waits)??
And then, Mark, isn't too much sun bad for you, and in the end, did it take away your inspiration???

PS.
Staff, sorry, but I can't send you a copy of the cover [don't worry, we've added it ourselves - Ed. Staff], the only really particular thing. And to really finish, I don't want to give a final score. I don't have the courage. You decide it yourself..

Sparklehorse

Sparklehorse was the primary musical project of American musician Mark Linkous, often described in the reviews as a one-person band rooted in lo‑fi craft, melancholy songwriting, and alternative country/indie rock textures.

The album appears in nearly all 12 episodes as highly derivative of ‘It’s A Wonderful Life,’ but there are welcome innovations.

The song is pervaded by rarefied and delicate atmospheres that at times recall the ambient of Fennesz.
