I absolutely disagree that it's better to watch the movie, although I don’t doubt that the book has its flaws, especially at the end. Where the hell are Frodo and Gandalf going? Why do they have to leave Middle-earth? Do they die or do they live after the sea? Who knows! And the lack of a final confrontation with Sauron is a bit disappointing, but it's an unusual and innovative work, and I think it’s massively brilliant for the times it was created. It's no coincidence that it inspired and became a cornerstone of a genre, in addition to the influence it had beyond the literary circle. Tolkien, if I’m not mistaken, created a fantasy world to escape from the ghosts of World War I, during which he fought.

It's not a nice record to listen to: it has all the beautiful playing in the world, but unfortunately the melodies and vocal lines are terrible, which is everything for a solo album by a singer.
