Cool. Never explored deeply and yet you got me really curious. And then Alessio likes them, which is a good guarantee :-)
Mogwai Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait

Well... from Rock Action onwards, the Mogwai seem like a joke to me... still classy, but always a joke... however, maybe in this format they sound interesting again... if I don't find anything better in the recent September releases, I might give it a shot.

beautiful and quite accurate, although an inevitable philologist on the subject like myself can't help but notice some inaccuracies (they don't exceed, at most they barely reach 20 years of career in '96; moreover, the "difficult circumstances" are probably a joke: in an interview, Smith says it was the most fun gestation his album ever had, between a tennis match and another in the big house rented to record in Bath); furthermore, some comparisons sound a bit forced, like that of Club America to the JAMC.. let’s say they are the Cure at their quintessence (even if certainly more "mature," artistically speaking, than in The Top or Kiss Me): that is, a band that filters everything but always sounds unique, for better or for worse.

yesyes, the Feelies drive me crazy.. by the way, I really love that cover, if only I could find it on vinyl... :-) out of print? can you believe a masterpiece could end up like this.. I haven't heard the other two albums you mentioned, but I've noted them down ;-)

Well, I notice that the common sense of rock enthusiasts tends to give significant importance to that English movement/culture/period. However, I have to tell you that I may be influenced by a certain segment of the audience that comes to our concerts and that I can tolerate less and less... those "crows" who are out of sync and take advantage of a cult to compensate for their clear lack of personality... brrrr :-D ...but it could just be my impression. Nothing to say about the rest of your excellent comments, of course, my perspective remains just that—an interpretation. Cheers!

If I can give you some advice, there are much better bootlegs than Entreat as live (and not necessarily worse in terms of recording quality). You can find a ton of them on Soulseek. In particular, from that same period, there's a beautiful live performance at Wembley Arena whose exact title I can't recall (anyway, there was a gorgeous ten-minute Forest). Bye!

senmayan, the discussion is more complex (especially compared to the review, I admit, so I completely understand your arguments): first of all, I’m not particularly interested in the fact that the DT sound technical: what I care about is their entirely Acreative approach, aimed at competent citation and the most total, standardized and thereby commodified banality of composition. I am horrified by their imposition of plastified emotions through a grandiose format that is supposed to "justify" total compositional inanity. This is my argument. In the end, they are the exact opposite of the concept of creativity, of research; they are intrinsically conservative, static, and empty. There is no revolution in their approach. It's not that in the early '90s there was only grunge; their "crossover" intuition is, in fact, all too logical and absolutely predictable in that context and period. What does it mean that in music there’s "also" passion? Of course there's passion, but passion means self-expression, putting oneself into music; where are the continuous clichés peddled by this group as an example of passion? Passion means at least identity in the uniqueness of expression—where is this uniqueness? The flat, clean vocal style devoid of Labrie's flair seems to me the exact demonstration of the contrary to passion. A professional band, which, not coincidentally, arranges and composes like the session musicians who play with Ramazzotti or Zucchero.

Mediocre?? But where... incomplete and uneven, yes, yet it contains at least two masterpieces (heroes and villains and good vibrations) and where it sounds incomplete, it does not, therefore, appear less creative and truly experimental. In this album, the studio is used in a genuinely creative way. Absolutely underrated... your focus on the rivalry and the chase between the Beatles and the Beach Boys is frankly exaggerated. First, because it is highly questionable whether a real rivalry ever existed; second, one was only interested in the other for a certain period...
