Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here

A beautiful album, there's no doubt about it. I read that Roger, David, Rick, and Nick never confirmed that the album was dedicated to Syd Barrett, even though the lyrics make it quite clear.

Yes... it's not the best from The Who, that's for sure, that's a given... But tracks like "You Better You Bet" and "Don't Let Go The Coat" always evoke great emotions in me... well, after all, they are The Who! Rating for the album: 3.5

The review is good, honestly analyzing what the album is. In my personal opinion, I would give it a flat 4 if not a 3.5, as I think it has some very interesting points. Zarathustra: I agree that this album carries the same weight as "The Dark..." - "Wish..." and "The Wall," but I don't think it has anything in common with "Meddle." "Meddle" is experimentation; tracks like "One of These Days" - "Seamus" and "Echoes" cannot be compared to "Pigs" - "Dogs" or "Sheep," especially because of the sound that, in my opinion, always distinguishes them, aside from the fact that "Meddle" belongs to the second period of the Floyd, that is, the experimentation with broader horizons compared to the Barrett period, thus spanning from 1968 to 1972. And the phase that includes "Animals" started with "The Dark...," so from 1973 to 1979 (these are just personal opinions...). To the reviewer: Mason is no longer the same as in Pompeii from "The Dark..."

As happened in Italy with Orme, PFM, and BMS, foreign groups have also experienced the "ecstasy" of keeping up with the times to stay "alive." I haven't listened to this album, but from the previous comments to mine, I believe I’ve understood what it’s about. The beauty of music is that it can be subjective... Roby might like this record, and who knows... maybe I won't... Anyway, in my opinion, certain English, Italian, or any other Prog groups would have been much better off disbanding in some cases... instead of continuing.

and I want to say more, Wright is the second member of Floyd after Syd Barrett that I prefer more in terms of personality and musical-stylistic originality... and also personal aesthetic...

I would say not to trust Scaruffi, Dante :) Because someone who says that the Beatles were ONLY a cultural phenomenon is someone who should start tasting and critiquing wines! Can you imagine? "Um... this wine is... is... it's... going to become an easy mass phenomenon in terms of aesthetics..." :) Come on, you can't compare Wakeman and Emerson with Wright; I will repeat this endlessly, they are two different styles that have nothing to do with each other... I honestly have never heard Wright play a Moog solo on the level of "Lucky Man" (with this I absolutely do not mean that Wright is not good at playing; on the contrary, his style is unique and unmatched, just listen to "Astronomy Domine" - "A Saucerful Of Secrets" and "One Of These Days," for this piece, the version from "Live At Pompeii" is preferred...) This is how I see it: there can be no comparisons in the case of Wright-Wakeman-Emerson, just as there can be none in the case of Zidane-Totti-Ronaldo; they are good, yes... but with very different styles.

I heard about Nietzsche through biographies of Jim Morrison (he was his favorite along with Dionysus). I had a faint hint in my mind that the Rosenbach Museum was inspired by something like that. I know you understood me about the Wright-Wakeman-Emerson thing... :)

Zarathustra, but is your nickname inspired by the Rosenbach Museum album? That’s what I was trying to say: Wright, in terms of style and approach to individual keyboards, has nothing to do with Wakeman and Emerson, even though he is still unique (Wright) in creating certain dynamics and musical situations... I don’t know if you understand me.

floyd, I don't agree with you... in my opinion, Wright has nothing to do with Wakeman and Emerson. Let me explain: first of all, Wright doesn't do the showmanship like Wakeman and Emerson, and he has a completely different style and approach to the instrument (in this case, keyboards). The strength of Wright lies in creating unique atmospheres with the various keyboards that fit the musical context desired by the Pink Floyd. In other words, it's like saying: "yes, Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore are good, but Eric Clapton is stronger..." floyd, no hard feelings! :)

I listened to it (on vinyl), it's not bad! "Luglio Agosto Settembre (Nero)" is still magnificent! A 3.5 overall for the album.
