The Don may not please everyone, and one could easily consider "Trout Mask Replica" a terrible album; that’s perfectly valid: subjectivity reigns supreme in such cases. After all, few artists, like the Captain, lend themselves to such marked dichotomies: there are those who consider "TMR" the ultimate Masterpiece as per the scaruffian lesson, deriding those who do not appreciate it, and there are those who talk about "innovation for its own sake" or "exclusively symbolic" without realizing that it is a complex yet captivating work, where not a single note, guitar geometry, or shift in time, meter, rhythm, harmony is left to chance. To assert that it hasn’t been influential is, at best, amusing; I don’t think one can argue that "beefheartian" denotes one of the most original and easily recognizable sounds in the history of rock. Not to mention the countless tributes to the Captain, from Primus's "Fish on" to Nurse with Wound's "Fallin' ditch." Long live the Don.

But you can’t be imsoulman, right? Midfielders with good feet? In Cagliari, two of the greatest ever played: Matteoli and Brugnera. And then Conti... the record is very beautiful.
