The review is decent, you have your point of view and you express it in a polite and articulate manner. In some parts, you go a bit off-track, like when you talk about "instruments played almost not to disturb the listener too much"... for instance, a piece like "One of these things first" is much more colorful and lively than so much loud psychedelia from Drake's contemporaries. About the voice: if you pay attention, the greatest singer-songwriters of all time (Dylan, Young, and Drake) certainly didn't have golden throats, but they were unique because they shaped the urgency of what they sang with what came from their guts.

I believe that the age-old question of grunge’s boundaries will never be settled: grunge is a powerful and synthetic term, much like new wave, another term that often encompasses everything and the opposite of everything (there are even those who write that Muse has elements of new wave, for example...).
Regarding the withdrawn cover, I don’t think it was a photomontage, but a photo of two old hippies found in a junk shop. It’s just that the couple had, in the meantime, ā€œredeemedā€ themselves through Christianity, and they didn’t want to have anything to do with these roughnecks who sang ā€œGod’s ballā€ and mocked even Pepsi. There’s not much to say about the Tad: MTV didn’t play their videos because the lead singer was unpresentable, and the NME even had a mocking headline about them: THE LARDER THEY COME. Cilia wrote it well: they were the unpresentable face of grunge, but unlike others, they never lost their face. A song like "Delinquent," with Evan Dando’s face, would have taken over MTV.

Thank you all for the comments (for the smart ones, of course). @mopaga: I found out that the review of 8 way santa I had in the works, you’ve already done it, so we’re 1 to 1. @flood and tabba. Cocker's lyrics were definitely endowed with greater narrative talent, more varied, even ironic.. but Anderson's greatness lay precisely in taking everything to excess, love it or leave it. The first albums are worth listening to, the rest can be easily forgotten (which does them a favor, by the way). Bye!

Beautiful page. I never had the curiosity to delve into Philips' early steps because the Grant Lee Buffalo albums, which I appreciated back in the day, haven't been in my playlist for a while... they seem to have aged poorly, except perhaps for "Mighty Joe Moon." Even Philips' solo efforts have seemed a bit lackluster to me. But after this review, I think I'll download something, especially since you are absolutely right when you write, "Often those who are truly great, are already so from the start." In fact, those who have freshness, boldness, that verve that often a forced maturity tends to diminish, are often greater. Regards.

in record time: a freshly released album, and immediately a track thrown to Fiat... yet another confirmation of the stature of a piece of shit.
