Ivano Fossati L'Arcangelo
Voto:
I agree about the album "Il grande mare..." a masterpiece by Fossati that is unfortunately semi-unknown. As for the voice, I believe it interprets well what he writes (perhaps he doesn't have a great vocal range, but I think expressiveness matters more than technique).

I really liked the shift towards lightness that was made with "Lampo Viaggiatore" (with "La disciplina della terra" it had frankly become too cerebral); if this album is in the same vein as Lampo, I think it will be excellent.

So what do you think, is it worth buying it?

I find their early works interesting, but here they already seem too pompous; perhaps the criticisms they faced back then weren't entirely unfounded. After all, they are partly to blame for contributing to the degeneration of prog (and I say this as a great fan of this music).

I haven't listened to the album yet, but it seems risky to define Fossati as a petty bourgeois; after all, following the success of "La mia Banda suona il Rock," he certainly hasn’t rested on easy hits... indeed, he has always sought to improve himself.

Great review for a great album! Unfortunately, I only have this one by Ultravox. Could you recommend some others?

It's a nice album, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. You can already notice the tendency to sweeten the tones, and some tracks feel like fillers (Afterglow), while others are too syrupy (Your Own Special Way). However, Blood On the Rooftops is among the best things in the entire discography (too bad they didn't give Steve Hackett more space during the songwriting process, as he would leave the band to embark on a great solo career). They could have included "It's Yourself" in the album, a great song later included in the second official box set (you can download it for free from the website www.stevehackett.com along with many other songs).

I didn't dislike this album at all! Well performed and with good music, I think it's the best of recent years. Nothing too innovative, but plenty of smart ideas. Excellent review.

In my opinion, it’s the best of the ’90s; musically varied and contemporary, with Renzulli's guitars balanced for once. It’s true that there are songs that are overly commercial (Regina di cuori and Ritmo#2), but I believe it was a good step forward (the last one unfortunately).

Certainly a step forward compared to El Diablo (both in terms of lyrics and music), but in my opinion, it feels too monolithic and shouted; there’s an anthology-worthy track (Fata Morgana, the one that resembles the old songs the most) but you can feel the absence of Maroccolo.
