"I only say that a guy named Paul McCartney said that Wonderwall is one of the most beautiful songs in the history of music..." it's the usual exaggeration, going from one extreme to another ;-) Paul McCartney wasn’t that great an artist honestly, I can believe that Wonderwall drives him crazy... which remains a nice song, but that’s it, it ends there.

But it's true that the Gallaghers copied... it's just that I don't make a big deal out of it.

By pop rock, I mean songs that are primarily catchy, bordering on classic emotional ballads, like We're not alone, with the usual guitar solo and a melody that's more sentimental than awkward and messy, though the piece itself still ends up being pleasant. I haven't listened to the less successful albums by Dinosaur Jr. anyway.

a good album, it’s true that in some parts those guitar solos are a bit exaggerated... and perhaps too clean for their standards. Then some melodies seem a bit too pop-rock to me... The second half of the record brings to mind "you're living all over me", and for this reason, I consider it the best. 3.5

How I love reviews that downplay supposed historic albums! Overall, I agree with you, although "Frankly Mr. Shankly" remains one of my favorites. It's curious to note how the songs, despite being pop, turn out to be little bricks of staticity (well done for highlighting this aspect). The lyrics often lean towards the pathetic, the pristine production is annoying, and that clean guitar gives me hives... yet, in its own way, this record marked an era.

Yes, but if that’s the case, Cigarettes & Alcool in the first seconds clearly reminds of Cactus by the Pixies, but it's undeniable that Oasis took a look here and there for "inspiration." The fact is that in their first two albums, they managed to channel these plagiarisms within a nonetheless personal style. Then they fell into cliché and stereotype (plagiarizing themselves). Songs like Live Forever, Cast No Shadow, and Some Might Say, if they had been written by some unknown indie band or not famous people, would have been hailed as masterpieces. In their incompetence and foolishness, they were still genuine (at first). And you could feel it.

The Oasis fit perfectly with the Stone Roses; just listen to the solo of "I Wanna Be Adored" to whistle over "Some Might Say."

Overall, the album seems a bit anonymous to me, with spikes here and there reminiscent of Shining and Marakesh. Boring tracks like Meister petz, The man parte one, and Domination penalize the album in my opinion.
