same day of the morlocks in Pescara... which one should I go to? Anyway, isn't the cover the one from the first album? The guys are super cool, but I prefer the Black Lips.

Well, as you can see, I really didn’t remember a damn thing. Anyway, just think about the final scene of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and there’s the Mexican standout, right?

It seems to me that the scene in question is taken from a Tsui Hark film (I should consult my university friends obsessed with Eastern cinema) but I could be wrong. Unfortunately, I have seen very little of Fukasaku Kinji, and I only remember Battle Royale... which has indeed pulled a couple of wicked grins from me, especially Kitano as "the teacher."

Genius, I only saw it in '94 the night after watching Pulp Fiction in the theater. What can I say, I join the praise for Madsen, the biggest bastard character in crime movies. I have always wanted to see someone truly torture a prisoner, not just make promises. And for the sake of it!! Anyway, it’s worth mentioning the help given by the good Edward Bunker (cameo as Mr. Blue - or was it someone else?-) during the screenplay phase to better portray the criminals in question. And then the final scene taken straight from a Hong Kong movie (which I should also have) but damn, who remembers the title.

Visitor Q goes beyond other films. It's a completely surreal movie aimed at a fierce critique of the typical Japanese nuclear family. A sexually frustrated office worker who sleeps with a girl only to discover she’s his daughter, and ends up having sex with the corpse of a colleague who was killed because she wouldn’t give it to him (a scene that Western cinema completely forgets). The son has serious monomaniacal problems with cleanliness, living upstairs behind a locked gate, constantly beats his mother with a fly-swatter, and gets beaten at school by all the bullies (they even set off fireworks inside the house while everyone pretends nothing is happening). The mother passively endures the beatings and, in the meantime, gets high on heroin, eventually becoming infatuated with Visitor Q, a punk-like figure who invades their home. Oh, at one point, she waters the house with milk in a hysterical pregnancy crisis. In the end, the daughter is the most calm; she’s just a prostitute. Is that enough for you as a snapshot?

fuck my allenian memory is slipping....is this the scene of the crucified dream in Manhattan? the one where he’s looking for a parking spot, accompanied by some flagellants. Well, even when the dictator calls for help from the militiamen instead of the CIA, it’s the CEA (Center for Abandoned Jews), and the next scene shows the rebels storming the palace while rabbis distribute Torahs left and right....this man monopolized my life from 19 to 25, and I’m truly grateful.

I've never seen the entire American version, but I watched Ring in Japanese in 2000 and I must say it really disturbed me. It still has an effect today, especially the final scene. Of course, it's not an absolute masterpiece, but it's remarkable within its genre. Honestly, I didn’t think that Ring was copied from Uzumaki (The Spiral) as Moustache says; I should find it somewhere. Anyway, in the genre and slightly more recent, I highly recommend at least one film by Kurosawa Kiyoshi, The Cure (Ghezzi will broadcast it next Friday on Fuori Orario, take note). As for the rest, not having seen anything by Miike Takashi is almost a crime now. Unfortunately, I’m stuck three years back with his films (in the meantime, he must have churned out about 4 or 5, a real workaholic). Among all, Visitor Q, Audition (perhaps the most brilliant), and the now-famous Ichi the Killer. I've seen many others, but I can't recall a single director, damn!

Beautiful, very much an obligatory chapeau. Well done for saying that the Kaleidoscope USA played for us, other nice treats.

Well done, I was about to give it a try too, but I don't know the character very well. An album that isn’t easy to digest, wildly free, full of almost tribal memories, meant for dancing around a fire packed with peyote. I don't feel it much, but it’s worth it; in fact, I should buy it. Now I'll read the review.
