listen to what antoniodeste says, symbad: "...in contrast to a similar review written in a bumbling, disrespectful, and shameful manner generated by absurd and distorted phobias and/or personal obsessions of a gentleman who, as I see around in this forum, for these reasons has been heavily boring us for some time"...since I imagine he was referring to me, I fully agree with your statement where you rightly emphasize "There is never any justification for provocation and rudeness." A round of applause to Symbad for the consistency and intellectual honesty of certain comments. One less applause for the 5 stars on the review (more for the sake of keeping the peace and avoiding controversies than for real conviction...I imagine...) :-)))

Sure, it's not a masterpiece but...if only we had more albums like this (even if it gets a bit tiring in the long run).

I also consider Bersani one of the few musically "ahead" in Italy and a Beautiful Promise for our future (I'm just waiting for the moment when it will finally be fulfilled...). Terrible Cover!! Lukewarm but honest review.

Ohhh finally someone who thinks they are a Great Reviewer... dear antoniodesto, if I want to read trivial and school-like things like yours, I go to www.google.it, type "Paul Simon Surprise," and I get 10 pages of reviews, critiques, and news about this album. Since YOU ARE NOT a professional critic (in fact, you wouldn't write obvious statements like "it's surprising how Simon sings in 'Surprise' with his natural and still crystal-clear voice" or phrases like "music and lyrics that have marked the simple story of a contemporary songwriter from across the ocean," things more suitable for Il Giornalino delle ediz. Paoline than for a serious music critique site). Well... at this point, I, like others, prefer to read AN OPINION about this record written in a transversal and original way (the album is barely discussed in my review, but it leads to a thesis on Simon's lack of inspiration and how he is trying at all costs to give his music a makeover, perhaps to broaden his "market" and rejuvenate himself... a move already made by other slightly declining singers). THIS, my beautiful friend, you will NOT find IN ANY GOOGLE BOX as a thesis nor in the way it is written, which I find 10 times more interesting than yours and that absorbs 10 times more energy in: thinking it, writing it, giving it a course, making the dialogues work, and inserting my thesis. Do you think I CAN'T WRITE four obvious things like yours (deducible at first listen)? If it took you 10 minutes, THAT'S A LOT. I take less time to type "Simon Surprise" on Google or other sites. Not to mention that, contrary to your extremely high self-esteem, antoniodesto A) I don't know who the hell you are B) it doesn’t seem you’ve ADDED any interesting or particularly significant reflections or insights C) by the 4th line, I already understood everything, and I’m changing the review bored by a style that can only be described as "school-like."
Then, I AM THRILLED that your review has been CHOSEN to be in the A-list, among the "reviews selected by editors," which again means absolutely NOTHING since A) it’s unclear what credibility the editors have to define themselves as quality guarantors B) there is no authoritative signature behind this acronym C) the chosen pieces are often debatable - see this review from 1st grade D) due to these choices, EVERY SELECTION made by these phantom editors loses value and credibility and, alas, sets the standard for evaluating the credibility of the entire site...
Next time, if you can, give me your opinion... give me an idea, JUST ONE... something that other 100 flat and boring reviews like this one don't say... if you can... if you manage... if not, keep it up, and you'll always have your place in the A-list. (I bet you're Sardinian... right?)

I didn't like this album... it's as if it lost its spark (which is typical after the first 3/4 albums... the substantial things you had to say have been said, and then the problem of GROWING and telling new things arises, and many fall into that trap... it becomes a job, it becomes calculation, exhausting tours, stages to dismantle, musicians to pay, kilometers to cover, agreements to make, percentages and earnings to achieve: in a word, WORK). A fairly standard review (who knows the selection criteria for the little dwarfs?! Quite a mystery, huh?!) but in my opinion, you've done better... Kss

...it's one thing to make a pleasant, nice, and “successful” album in terms of sales, and it's another to make a SIGNIFICANT album... well, here we are in the realm of the first hypothesis (and the irony of Punny in the review was ironic but not so far from reality...) just my personal opinion, okay?!

30% marketing - 30% craft - 10% Pul Simon and the remaining 30% the genius of Eno... mediocre record but in my opinion, shamelessly "forced"... that it can be enjoyable and at times beautiful, I have no doubt (it needed Eno's signature on the cover!). More than a normal and standard review.

Look, for once I'm happy to let myself be guided by the mainstream opinion (maybe with Queen I would think about it at least twice) and it suits me to dismiss it like this... it's a luxury I enjoy giving myself (with all the better singers than him in Italy, I’d want to see that… no one’s going to die, right? Is he a relative of yours?). Okay, bye.

If after repeated listens it "still leaves you perplexed," it means that it's A) a stroke of genius B) a terrifying flop. At this point, it MUST be INTERESTING :-))))))

I listened to a whole album on a wild journey from Rome to Venice four years ago (it was called Scimmie, I think...) then I got to know Disperato, Vaffanculo, and little else. I believe I know enough to have my own personal opinion, and I think it's impossible to convince me of the artistic merit of that Tuscan guy. Some songs are already unbearable, let alone six songs!!! Come on, next... bring on something else... let's move on, let's move on...
