The Cure Japanese Whispers

Well-written review, although the term experimental associated with a song like "The Dream" strikes me as rather strange. "The Walk" and "The Lovecats" still entertain me, "Just One Kiss" and "Lament" are two good dark outtakes, the rest is negligible.

Good job. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to listen to them yet.

I have the previous albums and the next one, this one is still missing from my collection but from the way you talk about it, it might like me even more than the others.

A Pop record with a capital "P," simple but not trivial, and let me say this: Oakey has a great voice, one of the best of the era. I prefer the experimental HL of "Reproduction," but this album, albeit much less ambitious, has some excellent moments. "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of," "The Sound Of The Crowd," "Seconds," and "Don't You Want Me" are my favorites.
Roman Polanski Rosemary's Baby

One of the most distressing films I have ever seen, highly discouraged for pregnant women. Good review even though the preamble is excessive.

I have definitely danced to them, but I don’t remember. In any case, my interest in EBM ends with the legendary DAF.
Antonella Ruggiero Registrazioni Moderne
Voto:
Ruggiero has a voice that can elevate songs that are either banal or just decent; her voice has everything: range, power, expressiveness. Her only misfortune was not being born English or American, otherwise she would have achieved enormous success worldwide. I've never felt the urge to buy something of hers, but I could start with this album. "Amore Lontanissimo" was a luxury for Sanremo.

@Blackdog: with "Ray Of Light" you’re opening a door wide, a more fake & artifact-like album I don't think could be conceived: the redemption of the former depraved who finds peace of mind in a sudden madaiol-spiritual twist (only to contradict herself in the next album). It's a drag and a mess, I prefer her (up to a certain point though) when she sings the usual silly tunes rather than when she pretends to be a new age guru.

@Blackdog: well, she was a pop icon, that's a fact, not a compliment, but just an observation. Whether there have been better ones is another story. Kylie definitely started as Australia's answer to Ciccone, but in recent years (as little as I follow mainstream pop), it seems she has surpassed the "teacher," or at least done less badly than her. The other day I heard the duet with Timberlake and immediately ran to the bathroom, struck by a sudden attack of diarrhea.

I never considered her musically, but as a cultural phenomenon, she was definitely a pop icon to remember. Today, it seems to me that she is no longer even that. When she ironically showed up wearing a t-shirt that read "Kylie Minogue," just to mock someone who was born to imitate her, I found it quite entertaining. However, when I saw her duetting with Britney Spears, I was much less amused. Once upon a time, Ciccone was the pop model to follow; now she is just one of many. What a pity.
