Sofa Surfers Sofa Surfers

I find this album quite disappointing. I really liked their solid and gloomy dub trip-hop sound. This compositional normality, with guitar abuses and catchy choruses, is unpalatable to me. I don’t think the comparison with Mezzanine holds much weight. It seems to me that the reviewer didn’t really like the other Sofa Surfers albums. Because compared to this, they are almost unrecognizable. De gustibus, of course...

Enchanted album. The more you listen to it, the more it conveys a sense of something monumental. Let’s also read the lyrics. They can be found on his website. Take "Atom and Cell," a gigantic track with lyrics that should be studied in school. "And where is the poetry?" Sylvian asks, and then reveals an extraordinary image: "Pictures are pasted on shop windows and walls / Like a poor man's Boltanski / Lost one and all." Christian Boltanski is an artist who works with images on the passage of time, on the instantaneity and transience of life. In short, if you get the chance, don’t miss his installations; they are a good visual counterpoint to much of what David gives us in musical form.

I bought the VHS and then the disc, really beautiful. But I consider myself even luckier because I saw them live in one of their rare Italian tours. November 1987, in the fog of the low Reggio Emilia, a club for a select few. A thrilling concert. One of those few memories that last forever.

Thank you, Francis... now it's up to others to fill in the missing spaces. Let's not forget about "The Sensual World" among the albums that are waiting to be reviewed.

Strange but true. Strange because finding a folk-rock band that shifts towards vintage electronics is rare. True because they did it, and from the judgment of "allmusic.com" on this latest album, it also seems like an interesting thing. Maybe it deserves a review...

"They tried with electronics...?!? Sorry, but perhaps you are confusing him with the namesake Hefner, author of seductive and refined electronics, among the best musicians if you like the genre."

Look Punisher, you could write a review on Aerial too. In fact, it would be welcome. It’s not like the first one who arrives gets the spot. For example, there are three Blemish... Of course, it would need to be argued. I don’t think anyone expects a musical revolution from Kate. But the album is well orchestrated and doesn’t sound that 80s (even though that sound has come back in fashion - see Depeche Mode). There’s an excellent job on the lyrics, the sounds, and the compositions. And Kate performs with an open heart. Then again, the sphere of emotions is so subjective that anything can fit into the ears of the listener.

... and in the finale, a fake Orson Welles arrives with his Rosebud and embraces the spirit of Elvis, and off they go together into the storm... it's the video of the year :D

Have you seen the King of the Mountain video on the official website? With Kate having a blast mimicking Elvis's singing. And that ghostly dress floating over the mountains? Naif, naive, ironic. Fantastic. Who else can pull off a video like that?

"How to be invisible" has a splendid text. In all of Aerial's compositions, there are words, stories that are rarely heard these days.
And it’s true, everything is more illuminated when you are also a parent. I cried my eyes out at the first listen, just like when one of my kids steals the sword from the other.
