"We dive down? We dive down??? We dive deeper and deeper?"
Like a ray of sunshine in these gray days. Dazzling and necessary. The return of Kate Bush after years of silence is this and much more. A double album. Aerial because listening to it causes vertigo and by the third track tears are already flowing. Tears of joy. For a friend rediscovered, for a voice that resonates even more brilliantly, for a unique and engaging sound. "A Sea of Honey" promises and delivers. A sea of sweetness that flows through the seven compositions. A seductive tension filters from every note. The music is complex, structured, well composed, fascinating.
Everything reflects the joy of being, of singing again, of telling stories once more. "A Sky of Honey" where tears become a spontaneous cry. Of happiness. Because the music, floating like a single suite, resonates nocturnal and cinematic. Words of a child, birdsongs, Kate's voice, aerial sounds. "Everything is illuminated." Everything reflects love and said so it might even sound clichéd. Listen to it, and for those who are also fathers or mothers, the experience is amplified.
A memorable album. In the sense that it makes you think, imagine, and desire, even after the first listen. An album that leaves you speechless and at the same time invites you to search for new words. Sensations, words, emotions, tears. Once again. With every listen.
Ps: this is my first review. But I've been reading you for a while and many times I've found myself in the words of many of you. For certain music, Debaser is an emotional community even before being virtual. And so it would be nice if anyone who listens to this album writes something. Another review, a collection of thoughts, a poem, a drawing. An online diary to share about a specific album.
The class is all there, nothing to say, but there’s a sense of 'little soul' encapsulated in sounds not particularly captivating or modern.
An album that after a couple of listens I imagine will be, like others, placed in the most unlikely point of one’s music shelf or, at best, resold for 8 euros at some downtown stall.
"Light as a dandelion, yet also violent like a slap."
"A poetic and wicked, tender and sensitive, restless and calm album, which is nonetheless a welcome return."
