Manu Chao Clandestino: Esperando la ultima ola
Voto:
This album is like a journey. Authentic. Lived with passion. This journey will be remembered for a long time. Independent of where one has gone or returned from. After.

Look, Antoniodeste, I really don’t want to solve riddles or have additional thoughts on issues like this. The comparison you make is misleading because it involves the same artist and a musical world that is unknown to me. To make it short, I would have preferred you to say "bread is bread and wine is wine." So for you, Sakamoto is done for and Alva Noto is "playing around" with the laptop? Fine, but this time the suspicion is mine: have you really listened to this album? Without earmuffs, I mean :)

An anecdote: I had the pleasure of having dinner with Marc Almond last November because he was performing as a DJ the same night at "my" former club in Reggio Emilia. Well, he was endearing, very shy and discreet, like a soaked little bunny... A night of nostalgia, but we'll skip over the DJ set ;-)

Everything you say is true, donjunio. The art of falling is another masterpiece, especially the dark "Martin." There was an air of collapse and despair there. This is what Marc was singing with the Mambas and with the help of a certain Matt Johnson. Two albums really worth retrieving: Untitled and Torment & Toreros, if only I could find them and listen to them again... Anyway, Non Stop remains unattainable and I vote for it again, vamos.

Hi Mr. Nob, well the five-star phrase ends there to say that the reviewer who praised this album so well gives it a 4 for an album that, in terms of influence and value, is for me among the top 5 of that era. Then, let them call you CRAZY for having gifted an album like Torment and Toreros, which, beyond its rarity, is always a magical musical treasure. Miseria how many beautiful memories. Engaged by this wave of nostalgia, I sit down to write about another little gem. Maybe you’ll read it tomorrow...

Vinicio is from my neck of the woods. I used to meet him at the Corallo in Scandiano on Saturday nights, already tipsy. Then in some small venue, just him and the piano, with a handful of people, always tipsy. I can say he is an authentic person. What you see, what he does, is truly him. Over the years he has kept his vice, but musically he has become a giant. Hats off.

Well done, Donjunio, you found the right words to describe a stunning debut. One small note, the musical minds were both of them. This is evidenced by their parallel and subsequent careers. Dave Ball made one solo but excellent album, "In Strict Tempo," while Marc Almond did brilliant things like Marc and the Mambas and also, but not always, in his long solo career. Then if we don’t give 5 stars to this album…

Well, I believe we all agree that the beauty of this site, what makes DeB unique, is the variety in type and taste of the reviews, comments, and their interactions. This is rare and extraordinary in the web landscape, not just in Italy. I just want to add, dear Antonio, that you are, of course, free not to appreciate my style. However, a suspicion arises here, alas, still prejudicial in the substance. Namely, why did you appreciate my review of Kate Bush so much, which was completely emotional, written with tears in my eyes? And yet you find this one annoying? Only the words and the context change, because it’s different music made for different purposes, but the approach is identical. I invite you to listen to this album with interest and then verify if those 10 words that describe it are really that far-fetched. One last note: I write for myself without any ambition, and everyone is free to recognize themselves or not. A hug to Gabri as well.

PS: The doubt about whether Alva Noto could be of much interest to DeB arose because the only other review of this artist is somewhere between serious and facetious. In other words, it was written without actually listening to the album. Almost a mockery. That's all.

Sorry Antoniodeste, perhaps your note is not convoluted but it is definitely prejudicial. Setting aside Sakamoto's trajectory, by placing the word "review" in quotes, you assert that this is not one. And here we could open a parentheses on the types of reviews on this site, which are also its charm. But I won’t. However, on the merits, you reveal prejudices. And here your reasoning almost borders on moralism. You draw conclusions that are not present in the text. You make some reflections seem snobbish. Your effort at diminishing the piece is ultimately pointless. And fortunately, my words are not scripture. Sadly, these prejudices undermine your words from the very beginning. Why can’t you find meaning in this review? Why do you say that the "music" here is not described? That is not true; just read it. The sound of this record is described precisely in 10 words. And they have even been bolded. The rest of the text is the sincere, truly sincere, emotional engagement that these tracks convey to me with each listen. An emotional review, from someone in love if you will, but it’s not only that and it is absolutely not pretentious. I’m glad there is interest in this artist; my only concern was a doubt. Regarding Nicolai's "greatness," I am ready to bet on it, but we can revisit this discussion in 30 years. In the meantime, I would gladly discuss it again on this site, without arrogance but hoping for less suspicious readers. A sincere greeting.
